Dungeon gimmicks: Way of gimmicks.

 

The 2 state or more barrier. Red, blue barrier: Now to extend this just add something like water and fire, or lower and higher the water. These are a barrier change. You can also have as many as you want, like 8 if you want. For example, Cave, Sand, Grass, and Sky.

Here you have a simple red and blue 2 state dungeon. Picking the tiles for what each version will look like helps quite a bit.

Here you have and extreme multi state dungeon, where cave, grass, sand, and sky is the different version. 

 

 

 

 

 

The progress barrier: This is where the dungeon changes but is permanent, for example, a water dungeon where when you lower the water is stays that way.

Here you have water that can be permanently lowered.

Here you blow up something to then turn off the power permanently. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Barrier plus way you change the barrier: This is a barrier dungeon but then the way you change the barrier is different. Like Floor 5 from To The Top with going in the wheel you change the barrier.

Here you have arrow that when you go on them you change the barrier state and go to the other side.

The go around things that when you go in one of them then all of the other one change direction to. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The one-time barrier: Golden barriers that when you hit the thing that lowers them then they stay down. The dungeon above has 4 of these. Just simple red, blue, gold, and green that a switch will lower all of that color.

Here you need hit the red, green, and yellow switch to then lower all the ice of that color.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The collect them all barrier: This is just a barrier that when you say destroy all the pillars then you can progress further. Or collect all the gold feathers to then go through.

Here you need to collect the 7 things to open up a path. The cave, grass, sand, and sky dungeon has you collect 4 diamonds to progress to the boss room. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The object-oriented gimmick: A object that does something to make a unique gameplay experience. Like this: When you go through a room to the next what happens to link is based on the ground tile. These are the different type: Goes up or down a floor, one way one, and warp.

Here you have what tile on the screen have what happens to link when he warps.

Here there're pokemon spinners then when you go on them they make you keep going until you hit another one, a wall, or a stop stop. 

 

 

 

 

 

Lower single barrier: This is where you need a item or lower the barrier from somewhere else. Like a orb you can to lower a barrier on that screen, or a pillar you lower from below to then progress. From above.

Here you have a switch that lowers the sand to the  floor below.

Here you need to lower the pillar to then be able to progress forward.

Here you need to collect the tablet and put it in the same color to then progress. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The in-order barrier: This is where say there’re six different screens where you need to do them in order. For example Link’s Awakening level 5 killing the Stalfos in the rooms.

Here's one made by Sans "In this one, the player need to find buttons that controls the flow of waters. It's the key function of this dungeon in order to progress. Player will also encounter 4 specific owls statues that will give the player an hint of a room with the 4 color statues puzzle in the second floor. The color barriers and doors also depends of the level of water. :)
