This little topic here will serve to introduce the idea of Let's Plays and how this forum functions.

First off, what is a Let's Play?
A let's play is a playthrough of a game, generally with commentary, shared by screenshots, videos or both.

Okay, but what about Walkthroughs?
Totally okay here as well! We'll be classifying commentary-less video playthroughs as walkthroughs.

Tagging
To make things simple to see at a glance, we ask that you tag your LP threads. Here's a handy guide for that -

LP Type -
[SSLP] - Screen shot let's play - The let's play is done in a series of screen shots with text commentary.
[Stream] - A live stream of someone playing a game, with or without commentary.
[HLP] - Hybrid let's play - The let's play uses both screen shots and video with commentary.
[W] - Walkthrough - These don't feature any commentary and serve as more of a walk through to show the game off.
[ZC] - Zelda Classic - A tag for Zelda Classic LPs (Just add this after the LP type if your LP is of a Zelda Classic quest.)

For discussions of LPs in general or offsite LPs, you don't need to worry about tags.

The OP (Original Post) and Updates
While this part isn't necessary, a well-written, well-presented original post shows care was put into your LP. The OP could include information about the game you plan to LP, how you plan to tackle the LP and any other information you think is relevant to your LP. Including pictures of the game is also a good idea (be it the box art, screen shots, etc) to spruce your OP up. Of course, you'll want to include links to the videos (if you're doing a VLP) or a table of contents (if you're doing a SSLP).

It's encouraged to add a table of contents for you LP as it'll allow people to easily find parts of the LP. This is as simple as hitting the little number to the top right of your update posts and putting them together in an easy to read list of updates.

Also, while it isn't required, it is encouraged that you add a little bit of information on what your updates are as opposed to just linking to it. It's mostly just to let people know what the update is about. Again, you don't need to, but it is a nice thing to consider.

For screen shot LPs, keep in mind that you may have up to 30 images per post, including emoticons. Your update can take more than one post if you need it to, but please don't go crazy with this. A few pointers to keep mind - use screenshots for important parts and transcribe conversations to save on screen shot counts.

'Claiming' the Second Post
Claiming the second post is when you post another post immediately after creating the thread. This is useful for OPs that have a lot of information or for screenshot LPs. Keep in mind that you don't need to use the post immediately - you can very much reserve it for future use.

in a community that already uses way too many acronyms, this is, ah... adding fuel to the fire. I am genuinely excited to see lot of threads in this section, maybe even some MMORPG FFC LMNOP ZC HSSMMAUSALPs, but only if they are properly labeled.

Quick question. If they are all in the same format (screenshot, video, hybrid, etc.), can we just have a single topic to keep them all together, and just use the first post as a table of contents for all of them?

Follow-up question. If we can, is there any way to rename a topic or the sub-topic? That way we can put in the sub-topic what the current game is, and change it as we start new ones.

I don't think there would be any problems with that, Kurt91. icon_smile.gif Though you won't be able to change the topic description, I'd have no problems doing it for people if they wanted it changed.

This, pretty much. You are scaring me away with your acronyms. D:

So after some discussion, we're removing the [VLP] tag as it's fairly safe to assume that all the LPs here at the moment are video let's plays, so it'd be kinda pointless to have them tagged as such. icon_razz.gif If it's not a VLP, it'll be tagged as such, so you'll be able to easily tell. :3

However, we are adding the [Stream] tag for that kind of thing given that a few are popping up as of late and it'd be nice to be able to pick those out. icon_smile.gif

What about walkthroughs containing commentary?
