Trying to figure out what I should have the sand rod do and how to implement it in puzzles.  it's harder than you might think to convert it from an item in a 3d game where it allows you to walk on elevated sand to a 2D game where you don't have that luxury of height.  I thought about having it turn sand into solid blocks but then what?
They become push blocks?  I already have a plethora of ideas for push blocks puzzles, including another item that allows you to push them from a distance (push wand).

So, any ideas for a Sand Rod?

I mean, height can certainly exist. A popular script is crystal switch blue/red blocks, which generally can be walked atop, but can't be gotten onto from the sides. A similar function to that for a raised sand, probably paired with a flag that, when standing on, you can get walk onto the raised sand, it could be designed to work as the original item.

You could make (fake) quicksand and have it turn it into normal walkable sand?

Obviously, it should summon trains to attack your enemies.

Here is my Idea why Not make the Sand Rod not so that he Works Specialy with Quick sand to make it Solid Sand and Depending on Which Version of Quick sand you Have you could make Different Thinks for Deatly One it would Work as Bridge if you have the more Harmless Variant you Coult make it Disapear by Quick Sand and make it Appear on Normal sand for a Quick Boost to Avoid Deatly Obstacles offcourse im not sure if that is Possible im a Noob in Zquest :D

Wait does that mean my Idea could Indeet be Possible Cool :D

In an SNES More items hack in a Link to the past, somebody made the Ice Rod make Icy bridges across water.

The Sand rod should do that but make the first bump of the bridge below the hero and also be able to attack enemies somehow.

How about if there's an enemy within a square radius it causes sand bumps to appear below enemies and when it releases them it pops the enemies or damages them somehow as they drop a step down below.

When the enemies are gone off the screen, it then does a secondary thing or switches modes the second time you use it.

But i like the idea of bump bridges strictly over quicksand and solid ground.

So maybe it makes a number of sand bumps to walk across depending on which direction you are facing like 5 or 7 Certain ground tiles across it makes them rise.

That would be the secondary function.

Mhh Nice Idea The Ice Rod you Mentioned Remains me of an Alttp Hack i Played There the Rod Could Freeze the Watter + it Could make Some Ice/Water Blocks Flat which you could before not Push so it was Like Erase a Watter Blockade :D

Mhh Maybe The Sand Rod could have a Similiar Function for Sand Blockedes :D

You'd have more possibilities when using sideview probably. I get the problem though, I've thought about sand rod myself and never made one.

I still really like my idea of just making it use height ala crystal switch scripts.

1) The rod fires out a magical beam or some moving earth bump, works only above sand. Recast to appoint the area of effect based on the beams position. It does not interact with enemies unless they are buried. Or it simply has a set distance like two combos away from Link.

2) After a possible delay, the effect is triggered, based on the ground. Like a sand crystal, that deals damage, also to Link, and hardens quicksand in the area close to it. On other groud an Earth block or rock that pushes up objects (Link jumps) or can be moved, for puzzles, or can be pushed onto combos to fill a pitfall.

And of course some simple triggers like earth statues that are only activated by the rod. It also could push up stairs or chests buried below sand with their position hinted at through some kind of map or text.

Another idea for Classic-styled Sand Rod: create pushable blocks from sand terrain.
