Wow, I got it to work in windowed mode at a resolution downscale of 2.0 and 30 FPS.

Okay, tested some more, and I found this in the bottom left of OBS:

And the video itself was choppy, and every few seconds was frozen on the frame (the video itself, not the software playing it)

Your settings are too high for your pc.

Either lower your:

- Resolution
- Frames Per Second
- Max Bitrate (maybe... I don't think this matters)

I even get that error when it is at a recording downscale of 2.0 and I move just a biiit too fast and then the recording gets choppy. I have 8 GB of ram here, why wont this damn thing just work.

Try setting your resolution to 1280x720 and your fps to 25

Ram and cpu are two different things. Recording requires more pc power than ram.

.. The resolution for Minecraft while recording has been at 930w560h
Wouldn't resolution make this worse?

Higher settings is not better when your computer can't handle it.

Your base resolution of 1280x1024 is a lot if you ask me. Especially if you're recording at 60 fps.

I'd recommend setting your base resolution to 1280x720 or even 640x480.

I'd also set FPS to no greater or lower than 25 fps in your case.

I can get the video to record ok if Minecraft's screen resolution is 930x560 and 25-30 FPS, AND OBS's recording set to a downscale of 2.0 (640x512 pixels), but if I move too fast, it starts complaining about high CPU usage and the video gets choppy/freezes up. It also looks pretty bad if I make the video fullscreen. I assume that's from the downscale removing some of the video data.

Why are you downscaling? Change the base resolution.

You need to change the base resolution itself, not use the downScaling option.

This will force you to have to edit your project so everything fits though because everything right now is set to fit in a 1280x1024 window of space.

So I set the downscale to none, and the base resolution to 930 560, and it.. doesn't really record at the correct size:

You need to edit that in your scene. Click the edit scene button to make your Minecraft window fit in your new smaller recording space.

This is what the "Options" for the Sources tab looks like:

There are no options for the scenes tab:

Edit scene is not in the options.

Here's a random pic I found online with edit scene button highlighted.

Man, sharing a link on a mobile phone is a pain.

That.. somehow seemed to make the video record at the correct size, but it's still very choppy. Also, if I drop the bitrate down to like.. 100, it looks like this:

Video tab:

Advanced Tab:

Encoding Tab:

(I read that a Buffer size of 0 basically means it can use however much it needs to for a bitrate; not really sure how that works)
