Sephiroth: Very nice map! It's good to see a dungeon map for a change. If only it were less fuzzy... As has been said before, every room seems to stand out on it's own. I especially like how you linked several miniature circular rooms together. I think it was that lava maze on F2 that finally hit home for me. *votes*

I simply exported a map that was set to ½ size instead of full size, as I didn't want to give off too much. The dungeon is designed with traversing the multiple floors at once, such as you explore a part of one floor to unlock a portion of another, and so on. You'll be changing between floors often, and the design of the dungeon has several shortcuts implemented as well. As I was designing each screen, I always looked at making each screen fit the puzzle (entire dungeon) as a whole. This is because of the red/blue blocks.

I'm considering setting up a dungeon demo for players to play through this dungeon for the expo. Thanks for the comments!

Thanks Russ! BTW, what about the flag looks out of place?

It just looks like a different graphical style from the rest of that map. Everything about it, though it looks good, seems to clash with the rest of the map.

I didn't literally mean cliffs. I meant having multilevel terrain. If it can be done with deserts, it can be done with everglades. You just gotta be creative. icon_wink.gif

Not the same. With so much water it would require lots of water falls...I have not seen any backward or sideways (let alone diagonal) waterfalls so everything would have to flow from the top down (since there are only front waterfall tiles). I suppose the land could vary in elevation a little...but it already felt a little cramped designing this with the brush and tall grass and such...level variation would add to that.

Plus, while perhaps I could find a way to work in some level variation, it would just not feel like everglades to me...I mean, everglades are notoriously flat...at least Florida's are...

Also, while this map might get a little monotonous since it is so big (not all of it is shown), I think the general style of it is more than interesting and creative enough, thank you very much. icon_cool.gif

Don't get me wrong, as a general rule I think your advice is spot on--varying elevation adds a lot of interest to a map, both esthetically and in terms of gameplay. I just don't think it's going to work for this map.

So, did I win this? It's been up for well over a month...

Oh, I'm sorry. I was under the impression that it was Aeos' turn to do this, so I completely forgot about it.

We still need maps for next month, along with more special motm submissions, so these won't go up untill we have enough. (Four maps each preferably.)

Congratulations Jupiter, you won Map of the Month 20. Salute*

Yeah, sorry about that - I've been a bit empty-headed around here, so tonight I'll have either SMotM 1 or MotM 21 up, which currently only has two maps.

(For SMotM 1, you have to nominate someone else's map to enter it into the contest through the dropbox.)
