He meant to make it look the same as Mabe Village, if you didn't realize that.

I think it's obvious that's what it is right? What she meant was, that she prefers to see original work other than remakes of older games. "New content" meaning something that we haven't seen before in our lives.

^ This.

I also felt that the map was kinda "cheating" on me as when I looked at I had no idea that it was a remake. I was just suddenly thinking (the next time I was looking at it) that damn, that kinda reminds me off... wait that's exactly like LA.

But like I mentioned before, no matter how good a first quest remake is, it's still a remake. And I like it more when one come up with his or her own quest from the ground up, so to speak.

He said in the caption that it's a recreation of Mabe Village... you're giving me the impression that you didn't know at first icon_razz.gif

Either way, it's not like he's remaking the game. Besides, as of right now, the map isn't even being used in a quest, and is just for fun. It's a good looking map, and a good re-envisioning, so even if it IS a "rehash", I don't really think the maps looks bad. I'll agree though, "new" maps is always refreshing.

I voted for Sheik earlier. Damn good map icon_smile.gif

Actually, it's simpler then that. I was just not aware of the name of the town in LA. icon_razz.gif
(I guess my first post turned out a bit more hostile then I meant?)

And yeah, I know he's not remaking the game, I just felt like saying it anyway. icon_razz.gif

As for who I voted on, I recall it being Migokalle, but honestly, I don't remember.

Do you do this for all of your maps Sheik?

Compare this,
With this.

I'm not sure what you intended to do with this, but I prefer new content.

No, I do not do "this" with all of my maps. Seriously, though, a map that is captioned as a remake of something should not be "accused" of beeing a remake. I honestly don't know what to say else about that icon_shrug.gif I don't even think I care.
However, as for my intention: As the caption (too) says, I remade Mabe Village as one of the new places for STZC, a certain project I am mapping for (well, not too much, but still).
New content is nice, agreed.

I got from your third (? ) reply that the tone wasn't ment to sound as unfriendly as it did, but next time you use that tone, please make sure to read (and understand for all I care) the caption first.

Now, I am an easy person to get around, but there are a few members around the forums that might take such stuff as a reason to start the flame-war. I sort of just feel like saying it, too.

There is probably no reason for me to opine on this, but since I'm bored...

Sheik's map is nice, regardless of it being a remake or not. Stating a preference for entirely new content is completely reasonable, but attacking a remake as somehow being sneeky or wrong is silly. After all, didn't Zelda Classic start as a way to replay and remake the original Zelda? Many entire quests are remakes. Some of the most popular Zelda classic quests are remakes of the original Zelda. That seems completely inline with the traditions and interests of this community.

I find something completely new to be more interesting and impressive too. But nobody seems to be disagreeing with that. That does not mean that a remake of something doesn't take talent. The first custom quest I played was "Origins" and I was blown away but the reinvisioning of the original Zelda and the skill it took to do that. Further, it's not like anyone is cheating by remaking something, they are just giving an homage to something they appreciate. As long as credit is given to the original--as Sheik did in an explicit and unmissable way--then I really don't understand why anyone would have a problem with an attempt to create a new take on something. Especially one that came out looking as nice as the one in question.
