QUOTE(Jaivaz @ May 30 2005, 01:06 AM)
Often but not always. My mother was on welfare (thankfully she is no longer on such a wasteful use of money) but she got out of that. It's not that those who 'drink often, swear, fornicate, etc.' are on welfare because of such things, it is because they are lazy ****s who deserve nothing because they give nothing.

I'm sorry, perhaps I wasn't clear enough. What I meant was people who are on welfare and don't do anything to change that. There are hose who try to do something to get off of welfare, and there are those who complain about never having money, because they waste what money they do have on drinks, drugs, smokes, and whatever else.

I apologise for any confusion.

I really can't generalize anything. Something like this seems FAR too subjective, in my opinion. You've got cases like Columbine, in which they suspect video games influence shooting behavior and such. (Though I'm by no means interested in having the actual details shoved into a nearby post just to sound intelligent, unless it directly affects LTM's intentions.) And you've also got cases with parents limiting their children's TV watching frequency and ability, which may have any number of effects.

In a case like myself, well, I grew up without cable, and without the internet. I was very "sheltered" from the good things and the bad, and taught that cursing is bad. I don't use the Sh*t or **** words, but I've grown to realize that ... well, for one, ... they're just words. icon_shrug.gif But that's obvious. The thing is, you have to do what society does. Go with the flow, so long as you don't think it's going to harm you much.

"Crap," for example. You've got "crap" and you've got "sh*t." Same thing? Seems like it, but apparently not. "Crap" is becoming the new "darn," for which "damn" was the unreplaced word.

Additionally, related to pr0n, it's also subjective. The majority of us look at pr0n, but how deep does it affect us? You would think someone as genuinely "safe" as myself wouldn't look at the stuff, but you couldn't be more wrong. (A horrible thought, so you'd think, but had you known, I wouldn't have changed anyway, so you're speaking with the same person, with the only variable changing is your knowledge.) And I'm fine, so this would break most stereotypes about pr0n leading to some sort of negative affect.

IMHO, there are just too many variables involved. You'd have to watch a person from birth, well into adulthood, and watch their actions, read their thoughts, as well as the actions and thoughts of those surrounding them, and take note of literally everything that they see, do, feel, experience, and emote. Such a study would cause billions of dollars to be spent, as well as the construction of a "The Truman Show"-like structure, which would undoubtedly be the cause of a "The Truman Show 2."

Just becuase someone is on well fare doesn't make them worthless pieces of ****.

I know a lot of great people who are on wellfare, like both of my grandmas. It doesn't make them bad, and it doesn't mean that they automatically do drugs. It just mean that they don't have enough money, and in most cases, yes, it is their own fault, becuase they spend their money on drugs, but my gradmothers do not partake in any drugs (well, one smokes cigarettes, but thats it). Also, what if they were brought up wrong? What if they were brought up in the worst preject of all, and they had no way to get a good job, or any money for collage, or in my one grandmothers case, my grandpa didn't pay enough into social security, while they were mareied so she only gets $300 from here social secutrity, and another $250 from SSI...

Its not allways their fault, so you shouldn't put them all into one group like that.

I don't want to be the cuase of a debate, so I'll leave it at that.

Also, why are only those words seen as bad? Why can't "house" be a super offensive word? They are only bad, becuase people see them as bad, so the try to hide it. I don't think that there any real bad words becuase we make them bad... The word nigger is bad beucase it is a social lable portraying blacks as something negative... It is only seen this way becuase we see it that way.

The word cunt is the same way. A derogatroty term for woman... Only becuase they let it be a derogatory lable for them...

If somebdy called me a "cock muncher ass ****ing piece of **** white ****ing cracker honkey" I would not be offended, in fact, I'd laugh. See, that would show weakness, but I wouldn't let them think that I think that that is offensive.

Grr... You people aren't listening to me! I didn't say that all welfare people are bad, I am friends with several in fact. What I said was I can't stand people who won't do anything about being on welfare. If they spend all of their money on booze, or cigarrettes, and then complain about not haivng money, then I can't stand them. Please read my entire statement.

Please, please, this isn't the place to be debating, especially sense this debate is getting heated. Maybe I wasn't in the correct mind to do this. I might have been mistaken if this forum could handle it. :\

I think that both can have a profound effect on a person. Cursing requires that you say the words. That may seem obvious, but that also has hidden meaning. A person who curses has made the choice to curse for one reason or another and therefore can also affect other choices. Porn requires again that the person look at it, which requires a choice in the majority of cases. However, I know that some individuals may find it unwittingly while surfing the internet, which may or may not lead to them looking for more. Since we are visual creatures, that is, most of us depend mainly and are affected mainly by sight, it has an even greater effect.

I once did research on the effects of video games on people (secondary research only), and found some very interesting things. For instance, do violent video games make people more prone to violence, or are people who are already more prone to violence more likely to choose to buy or rent a violent video game? I found that particular debate to be unsolvable. Good luck with your endeavor, and good luck with any debate like the one I mentioned.

icon_lol.gif You mean ignorance or ignorant? icon_lol.gif

Here is your present BH4 icon_wink.gif

Video Games, I think vioalence is hilarious yet just about all my games are "E" or "T". I personally am not very interested in shooting games while they are fun they can get very boring. I like games like my brothers "Medal of Honor: Rising Sun" because it has a story to it. I do not think violence has much to do with video games. Have you ever heard this on the news, "This is a breaking news report from <yourlocalchannelhere> 10 year old boy in <yourtownhere> has reported killing his father and severly injuring his 2 year old sister with a stab wound. He testified his "Grand Theft Auto" game drove him in a killing rage when his dad told him to put his bowl of cereal in the sink if he was done. His sister is expected to have a full recovery in 3-4 days. His fathers funeral will be held Friday. Now back to your regular programs, Thanks for staying tuned."

...

I tell you, spelling is a gift!

Also, I lied... I'm back, but I am not attemting to debate!

The social labels make the people less than human... so in our eyes, its okay to beat a "a worthless kike", or "a piece of **** nigger." Once you degrate something, and make it less than human, it automatically becomes okay...

Look at the holocaust... In Adolf Hittler's eyes, he wasn't killing humans, he was "extermanuinating rats"...

See where I'm going with this?

WARNING: Super duper offensive examples and content, read on at you own risk!

Also, for your own knowlage, here is a list of derogatory terms, and the types of people that they label. I'm writting these as I think of them, so if I miss a few, oh well.

Nigger - Black, African American.
Kike - A person of Jewish heritage.
Gook - Used durring the 60's to lable Veitnamese people.
Honkey/ Cracker - Often refers to a white person, but they are more used for "red necks".
Red Necks - Generaly, people from the south, they tend to have for the most part, a lesser life style, so the get this lable...
Chink - Aisain, Chinese in particular.
Faggot - Homosexuals.
Cunt - Women, also means "dirty pussy".
Slut/ Skank/ Whore - Used to make (especially teen) girsl feel bad about them selves... This really makes no sense at all. If a girl has sex, they're automatically some STD ridden "skank", but If a guy has sex, he is a god...
***** - Another term to degrate women.
Japs - Used to degrate the japanese durring world war II

I can't think of any more, so thats it for now.

Well, this is starting to get out of hand, unfortunately. This was a place not meant to be used for debating, yet it started anyway, and many harsh comments were made. I was using this for several experiments. I was wondering exactly how PZC could handle something like this. Apparently not well. And actually, I truely was curious what the outcome of the study would be. However, due to the trolling, this topic has been closed.
