For the quest I am working on I have remade the torch from Link's Awakening in 8-bit style completely in zquest by just using 8-bit colour mode in the tile editor.  As shown in the screenshots it looks great in zquest but when actually playing the quest the colour is all messed up.  I was wondering if anyone knows how I can fix this problem and if so thanks for the helps.  Torch_Problem1.png

Even in 8-bit color mode, colors from CSets 2/3/4/9 will change according to the dmap palette you choose.

Meaning, if you were using the Z1 Level-1 palette and colored something using the medium-aqua color (2nd from left) from CSet2, then used the Z1 Caves palette in-game, those medium-aqua colors would turn black because that palette has no equivalent color in the spot of that color.

I can't say for sure without looking at the quest itself, but if you colored any of your 8-bit tiles using colors from CSet 2/3/4/9, then you can expect those to change with every palette change you make.

And for the colors you're using, you may just want to add them to the 3rd row of CSet 8, then you wouldn't even need 8-bit coloring (assuming you haven't expanded CSet 8 already).

I haven't expanded the CSet mostly because I didn't know you could expand the CSet (I thought adding in different colours is what the 8-bit colour mode was for which worked well for the last custom tile I worked on).

Oh, well, when I say "expand," I just mean that, out of 16 possible colors, only 8 are used in CSet 8 (assuming you're using default classic tileset, as your screenshot would suggest). If you open the tile page and edit a tile, you'll see the 4x4 palette color grid on the bottom right, and when you're on CSet 8, the 3rd row will be empty (as will the 4th, except for a stray blue). So if you need more shades of red, you can put them there.

I only suggested CSet 8 because it has a red focus. When I was adding more shades of blue for something else I was doing, I put them in CSet 7 because that has a blue focus. But you can add them to any non-2/3/4/9 CSet and they'll stay consistent no matter what dmap palette you use. 8-bit just allows you to use multiple CSets at once, but if you can put all the colors you need in a single non-2/3/4/9 CSet, you won't need 8-bit, then you can place it in any level and it will look the same.

Thanks for the info, I tried fooling around with the csets to see if I could get that colour to work which unfortunately I couldn't though I found another colour close to it that while I thought would look bad doesn't actually look that bad from far away and now that I know what colours change I can probably use them for anything transparent.
