Jared's shot has a nice flavor/mood/tone to it which took the vote. The other shots seem a little too straight-edged and rigid IMO.

Eddy
The sharp, unbroken vertical edge on the left side of the screen is a little distracting. There are more creative ways of maintaining a flat hitbox border.

The lower portion looks like it would be a little annoying to traverse regularly due to the rock obstacles, but the aesthetics of the screen are pretty nice. I like the diversity between the grass and the sand features.

I love when screens transport you to the pictured scene. I feel that way about your shot... something about the depth of shadows or the serene-ness or something intangible. Keep doing what you're doing. Voted here.

Surprisingly, you aren't meant to traverse through the lower section of the screen. The section is there because the water had been drained. It's hard to tell but you can't show much through one screen, I tried my best 
(The blocked-off cave is just for effect)
