The speaker icon on my taskbar works. But when i try to play the sample tone it says failed to play sample tone. I have tried to fix this i even tried installing and uninstalling the driver nothing at all works.

Hm. Are you using headphones? Maybe the volume for headphones is turned down for some reason? I don't wanna sound like a dick, but the speakers are securely plugged in, right? I really don't know though. If the driver works, and the icon is there, it's either a system setting, or a hardware error (loose plug, etc).

Good luck. I will never get Windows 10. Ride 7 till I die.

See if it works with headphones, if you can. If it does, then it might be the speakers themselves.

Check if the sound is disabled in the sound properties. It's not the same as muting and it won't show on the taskbar.
