If you're just recording, this isn't the case. You want to use a higher bitrate for local recordings (5-6 should be good in most cases), since it won't run through your upload. Just make sure that you are only recording and not streaming (you can do this by setting it to File Output Only in the video or encoding setting, don't remember which at the moment).

Yeah, my internet is way to terrible to try to stream.

 

Anyways, I have had my bitrate set to 5,000, and when I set the bitrate to 6 it sets it to 64.. so uh.. yeah. Also with 64 it looks god awful

I'm almost certain that DCEnygma meant 5,000-6,000 for the bitrate, not 5-6.

Also, I tried recording with 6,000 bitrate, which was.. eh.

It stopped after a second or two, even though the video was a few seconds long, and also

I feel like this should look nicer at a 6,000 bitratre.

In advanced, I don't think I used CFR or the custom x264 settings. Other than that, not 100% sure. I can check at home and give you some feedback though.

I tried setting the Advanced settings to default, but that didn't really help, and it still freezes the recording after a second or so of recording.

I didn't read any of the above posts, but OBS is open source so you'd probably have to fix it yourself or wait till the developers fix it.

 

Edit: your bitrate is way too high, most places do about 3000 kbps max (streaming)

 

You should enable CBR

Than it shouldn't matter what your max bitrate is.

You're recording at 1280x1024 at 60 fps. This would take a lot of computing power if you ask me.

I'm not entirely sure your computer can handle that. Try lowering your resolution or your FPS.

I believe when just normally recording, the bitrate also is the quality. So far, it seems 6000 looks okay, but still kinda... eh for things in the background.

You need to lower your resolution and frames per second. Your computer might not be strong enough to record at the settings you have.
