I am looking for a free and safe downloadable software that will for free enable me to download videos from YouTube to a computer such as an
hp laptop.
virustotal
website can scan files
Hypercam 2.0 can read videos on a computer.
You can make a YouTube video downloading such software I mentioned up above and scan the files of the software showing results so I know such software is safe to install and use.

If you want to download videos fairly often, a browser plugin's probably the easiest way. Here's one for Firefox, and here's one or Chrome.

In addition to what Saffith posted, I find Keepvid.com pretty nice too. A little bit less wieldy, but works for me. Only downside is you need to pay for downloading videos in 1080p, and I wouldn't be surprised if what he suggested can do that.

I am unsure how much I would trust the output from any of these free utilities, or websites to be free of malicious content. I can recommend IDM (internet Download Manager), which supports ripping, but it is commercial, and one of the few instances of commercial software that I do not peronally object to buying.
Youtube continually changes various components of their embedding format, to 'block' programmes that do this, and the devs of IDM do a fantastic job in keeping up with the changes.
IMO, YouTube should allow downloading content that is not user-monetised, and be done.

I rely upon JDownloader 2 Beta. It has only failed me on I think 1 fairly shady video website (I think NicoNico?).

NicoNico is Japan's Youtube. It's hardly shady.

Yeah I know, it's very overzealous about keeping outsiders (non-japanese) from watching stuff, let alone download the videos. I know there's an alternative website that lets you bypass the geoblocking bullcrap but it really shouldn't be necessary in the first place.

I use firefox and I find 'FVD-flash video downloader' to be the best youtube download plugin. And believe me I've tried all of them. It is also available for Chrome.
