I'm trying to find a way to rip the music files from Super Mario Galaxy. Anybody know how I can make the disk readable? It won't show up when I put it in the cd drive. icon_frown.gif

I don't think Wii disks work with a CD Drive, because they're intended to be used with the Wii. Sorry. icon_sorry.gif

Wii disks are special DVDs. If you wanted to do it in a CD drive ...

Yeah.

End of discussion.

The Wii (and GameCube) discs are DVD based technology. The reason your PC can't read them is because the file system on the discs is not any type of standard used by PCs today (ISO9660[Rock Ridge, Joliet],UDF). So you can dump the disc's data sure, but it won't even be readable data until you figure out the file structure, and if you want to get files from it you'd have to have a DLL for the filesystem, or kext on OS X.

Oh and they also have a BCA (Burst Cutting Area) etched onto them, which is usually a serial number, but it might be a form of copy protection, unsure really, since you can't tell what the file system is.

Yup, got one right here and before anyone flips out, it's legal if you own the game.

(DL: Wii/GC Raw Disc Image Dumper Ver.0.05)

To dump your disc onto your hard drive, use the software located below. It basically puts an ISO file on your computer, and decrypts it, allowing you to view the files. Right now, it only works for single layered discs (ie: not Brawl, for Brawl, there is other software, not sure if it can be decrypted):

Distributing any files using this method is highly illegal, so keep everything to yourself, no sharing.

This should give you access to the music files, I haven't played with it. I know loads of people rip Wii data without sound test or anything--they straight rip it to their hard drive.

plissken, does that software work with LG drives? im aware of other software that does Gamecube discs but it only works with drives capable of spinning the disc in the opposite direction.

Yeah the Wii disk dumpers use firmware debugging instructions, which are only present on the LG (Hitachi) drives -- Ones the Wii uses.

I just tried to dump Super Mario Galaxy ... no luck, I kept hearing my drive whirr-stop, whirr-stop, whirr-stop, repeatedly. I finally deleted the dumped TMP files (closing the dumper out first) and then ejected the disk.

Anyone else have such a problem?

your cd/dvd drive might not support the unique features required.
