Greetings all! I've returned to Zelda Classic for the first time in 16(!) years, and I have been reading up on all of the new features that have been added to ZQ in the time I was away. I'm enjoying the new expanded classic tileset that comes with the release (and I'll probably be using it as a relearn the program), but I'm curious as to which tilesets are available that best make use of all of the new items/monsters/scripts/etc. that are optimized for the newest releases. I mostly used Pure, Classic, and a GBC-like tileset in the past, and I'm open to messing around with anything that resembles those, though I'm open to pretty much anything.

For GBC-esque quests, EZGBZ 2.5 is a really nice tileset that's fully modernized for new versions.  I have some problems with the combo organization but the tile sheet is pretty comprehensive to the original games and it has everything organized for 2.5 out of the box which is nice.

Vintage Dreams is the only tileset I know that heavily uses provided scripts to attempt to pre-configure a tileset for certain scripted features.  I haven't used it but it seems fairly popular.

You've also got:

  • Classic XD - Classic tileset with modern color sensibilities
  • Pure 2.5 - Update for the old Pure tllesets
  • Koten - Fully custom NES-ish style, similar to Classic to use

Koten has a really interesting aesthetic: I'll definitely try to spend some time with it. Thanks for the info!
