Y'know, one thing I never liked about the Werehog in Unleashed was the gameplay name of it. I mean, Werehog just sounds so stupid. Especially since it has so little connection to hedgehog. (The same could be said of Sonic, however. icon_deformed.gif) Or any part of what is actually is, really. As it turns out, the "were" in "werewolf" (and "werehog" or anything with the prefix "were") means human. Which makes sense; human-wolf. However, the werehog, which is a werewolf with anthropomorphic hedgehog instead of human, has a name that implies human-boar or something like that. Doesn't make any sense.

Sonic Adventure 2 is not only one of the best Sonic games to ever exist, but is possibly one of my favorite video games of all time. I think I put more hours into it than I put into Pokemon Blue when I was younger.

Actually, it's one of the only video games I've really touched in quite some time, and it never gets old...

Yeah, Adventure 2 is amazing. I need to get a new memory card so I can play through it again; my current one keeps corrupting SA2 data (and some other games) but says the rest of my games' saves are perfect, and I have no clue how to format it. D:

It doesn't, but let's think for a second. You'd then only have the alternative of "Hedgewolf." ... which actually sounds kinda cool, but due to the popularity of the term "werewolf," they probably figured "Werehog" would get the point across better. Stupid publicity market.

Anyways, I recently was able to play through and beat Sonic 4: Episode I. So, in the style of my earlier "review" posts, I figure I might as well tackle this one as well.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I (WiiWare)
Well, waiting for this game was an interesting experience, I must say. You get the announcement of "Project Needlemouse," hints at a new sidekick character (something like "Mr. Needlemouse" or something), a list of characters fans got to vote out of the game leaving only Sonic, and promises that it was a return-to-form 2D Sonic game in the vein of the original classics. Only, perhaps too close to the originals in some ways, too far removed in others. Level design borrowed heavily from past installments (though this can slide; much of the franchise is like this), and bosses ripped straight from the classics with some edits and additions to strategy. And you still have the homing attack, a move that only Sonic Colors DS has come close to making work right in a 2D game. So there're plenty of inane homing attack chains to burst through. And some bad enemy placement and cruddy traps trademark of Dimps. However. The game, despite some changes in physics that might throw you off at first but are easy to get used to, is actually pretty enjoyable, as shortlived as it feels. And the music, despite the soundfont failing to emulate the Genesis properly, is, for the most part, rather enjoyable, minus the initial boss theme and the final boss theme. The former is actually a track unused from Sonic 3D Blast and is just... lame as a boss theme. And the final boss theme is incredibly dull and repetitive. ... so is the final boss itself. But still, the game turned out to be really fun, but your mileage may vary; however, I can safely say that this game just falls short of being worthy of the title "Sonic the Hedgehog 4." And I still think the episodic format is horrid. But we'll see; maybe they'll stop at two episodes.

7/10

Anyways, something I don't recall being mentioned in this thread: Hacks. Well it might've been mentioned but I'm too lazy too look. But yes, there are dozens of hacks existing in the Sonic world, several well-known ones, and a lot are pretty good. Plus you get the comment from blind old-school fanboys that "it's sad the fans know how to make a better Sonic game than Sega." In some cases, yes. But not the majority. Anyways, one in particular I'd like to point out is "The Lost Worlds," which is a Sonic 2 hack. In the early beta stages of Sonic 2, the time travel mechanic that made its way into Sonic CD was contemplated, and as such, there were a few scrapped zones. This hack was made in an attempt to recreate those zones. You can find it and more information here:

http://info.sonicret...The_Lost_Worlds

It's a mix of good and bad, but it's a fun hack, if anyone has a Genesis emulator and is interested in playing it. I also did a Let's Play of the hack for the heck of it, if anyone's interested in that. [/shameless advertising]

Oh gosh this question. You will get insane knocks on both games. On the second, you'll get those from me. icon_deformed.gif

Get Sonic Unleashed (assuming you have a 360 or a PS3; that version's better than the Wii/PS2 version). The only annoying thing about the game is collecting sun or moon medals to advance; the Werehog levels are very underrated. They're actually a fun set of stages (if not combat heavy), and no more out of place than any other character in a 3D Sonic game that isn't Sonic (like any of the characters in Adventure or Adventure 2). In fact, it feels better than those. And the day stages are incredible.

'06 (the second one) is a poorly-designed piece of crap with bad object placement and screams "this game is unfinished." It was fun in places but the characters move too slow, there are plenty of terrible game mechanics, loading screens are insanely long (and frequent), and it's just... bad, when you compare it to, say, the Adventure games. Even Heroes was smoother than this. But at least it's cheap, so buy it at your own risk. I wouldn't give that suggestion for Colors Wii though. icon_sweat.gif

I could not find it on Xbox360
at my local game stop <_<

And stay away from 06 Sonic the hedgehog
The way you made it sound
It sounds like a bad game I'll keep my 11.99 thanks you gamstop icon_lol.gif

And also I found a gamecube version
Of sonic adventure 2.
For 17.99 <_< is that to much or what for GC game icon_lol.gif
I'll probably buy It^ And sonic unleashed

Sounds like a good option. I have only seen playthroughs of the Wii/PS2 version and noted that they have too many night stages. But for Sonic Adventure 2, it's worth it. It and '06 play similarly but SA2 is so much better. So yeah, go for that. And no prob. icon_smile.gif

Damn you bro...

Anyways, I'll start with Unleashed. Although the PS3/360 version is a lot better, the Wii/PS2 version is still fun. Not near as good as the PS3/360 version (Seriously, that version's amazing), but it's fun. But be warned, the Wii/PS2 version has a whole lot of night stages, and not many day stages. So while it's still fun, you're gonna be playing as the werehog a lot more than as the hedgehog. The PS3/360 version's more balanced out.

Onto '06. Most people hate it. I absolutely love it. Yes, it is unfinished. But it's still fun. if you've played Adventure 1 or 2, it plays like that, but with a more advanced physics engine. And a bunch of new characters. The story's amazing, and aside from the loading times, kinda boring hub worlds, and one boring level, it's tons of fun.

As for Sonic Adventure 2, GET IT! It's the best Sonic game in existence, and one of my favorite games of all time. Seriously, if it were 50 bucks, it'd still be worth it. Don't hold back. Buy it. Now.

Sounds like a good move. Those two games you'll have a load of fun with. And yes, the original Genesis games still hold up wonderfully today. I'm a strange man; I have a Sega Genesis with all the original Sonic games, but I also have them on my comp and on my Wii (homebrew, not VC). Either that's addiction, convenience, or appreciation. Or a combination of the three. icon_heh.gif

You're not alone.

Sonic 1, 2, 3, Spinball and Knuckles Chaotix on Genesis/32X.
Sonic CD, Sonic 3 & Knuckles Collection, Sonic 3D Blast, Sonic R on PC.
Sonic Mega Collection, Sonic Gem Collection, Sonic Adventure DX on GC.

Actually I'm not sure if I have 3 on Genesis or not, but I have the Sega CD version of Sonic CD
with out a Sega CD to play it on.

I have Gems Collection and used to have Mega Collection, but I gave Mega Collection away. So that would have been yet another copy of the Genesis games, but I'm good with the other copies I have. icon_razz.gif

I feel weak. I own Sonic 1 on Virtual Console, and Sonic 2 on iPhone/iPad (incredibly difficult to control, lemme tell ya). Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic CD are the only main series Sonic games I don't actually own though, if that counts for anything.

You know I just got a hold of a "Sonic & Knuckles" Game for sega Genesis
This game looks like a game genie cartridge But it hooks up to Sonic 3 sonic 2 and sonic 1 The book says
God this game is annoying There is no save feature un less you lock on to Sonic 3 which i do not have icon_frown.gif
But i have to say it was worth the $5 at a yard sale icon_biggrin.gif
Its so fun icon_smile.gif
