Post your food-related tricks and tips. Creative, insane, delicious, and most of all, unusual. "Outside of the box" thinking.

Watermelon Smoothie.

No, it doesn't have to be your idea. Just needs to be awesome and creative.

The asshole who didn't use a seedless watermelon for that should be hanged for that crime.

Well, my house has been low on general foodstuffs that are quicker and easier to make, so I had to do a bit of one earlier for lunch.

I decided to cook up the Cream of Celery soup (presumably meant for some kind of casserole), poured in some onion powder and cracked peppercorn herbs.  After it had heated up a good bit and was starting to get creamier, threw in some basil and garlic powder (how strong the garlic is is based on when you put it into a dish, the earlier, the less noticeable it is), and lastly, I threw in a cube of beef stock, letting it flavor the broth.  It ended up being pretty good, I'd do it again.

I just finished making and eating Vietnamese pho - a spiced beef soup with rice noodles. It's kind of like a beef version of Japanese ramen with some unusual spices. I think it turned out awesome. I sometimes make my own ramen noodles since it's hard to get good fresh ones here, but I was hoping to find a less labor intensive asian noodle soup that I could make easily. Pho wasn't that ... but it was certainly delicious. :)

When I make meatloaf, I use oats instead of bread crumbs, at half the amount the recipe calls for (it's usually 1 cup breadcrumbs per pound of beef, I use 1/2 cup of oats instead and no bread), and then I layer the top of it with bacon. It is amazing.

This is the weirdest thing I've ever eaten. And it is so delicious, I am not even lying.

Take a fresh loaf of french bread. Break it in two.

Put a fresh doughnut in between the pieces. Eat.

So good.

How to make homemade peanut butter fudge.

Step 1: Put peanut butter and honey at either a 1:1 or 2:1 ratio (equal amounts or twice as much peanut butter than honey) in a small bowl.

Step 2: Microwave until both are melted down, then mix together.

Step 3: Place bowl in refrigerator until hardened.

Step 4: Slice into small cubes, keep in refrigerator to prevent softening. Eat one when you have a sweet tooth.

Does a can of Wolf chili, three Ball Park beef franks, 1/4 cup mustard, 3/4 cup sharp cheddar, and a handful of Fritos mixed together and heated up in a pot count?

Oddly enough, I'd wager it would.   Odd amalgamations of generally unexpectedly nonrelated foods tend to be quite scrumptious .

In fact, one of the things that tided me over (and actually kept me alive for the warmth the stove provided) during Hurricane Sandy's two week power-less aftermath was to combine every bit of meat in the freezer into a large pot with a few cans of beans and gravy to form what the Jews call "Chulent."  It had brisquit in it too.  I daresay it was the best I've ever had.

Not the most creative by any stretch, but when I was a boy scout, we sometimes made what we called "Hobo Stew".  Basically, we took cans of vegetable or minestrone soup, cooked up a lot of ground beef, and put it all together.  Sometimes we threw in some extra stuff, if it seemed like something else to throw in.  A nice medley that wasn't difficult to put together.  That was the lazy dinner.

The lazy lunch was BLT sandwiches, but I wouldn't call that a food hack.

I'm a huge fan of ice coffee. Unfortunately the way your suppose to make is pooring hot coffee over Ice which waters it down. The good news is you can freeze it so when the ice melts it doesn't water down your coffee!

I doubt this is a "hack," per se, but it sure is creative. Coffee jello!
