Lightwulf has a screen so alive. Like, I aint never seen that much NPC USED CORRECTLY in a quest before on a single screen.

 

Just look at those bright colors too. I love it.

Well...I can understand people's love for NJF's shot, but really, I think Charizard is the winner here.

 

The shot, while pretty organic looking, is an absolute mess. I can't tell where the stone is solid and where you'd simply walk behind it. The trees seem like complete sprite junk and it's really confusing as to whether you could go right a screen behind the tree or whether it just stops. The custom-palette terrain clashes with the NES-palette tiles, and overall the colors are uncordinated and oversaturated. Really, I'd say the only redeeming factors of the shot are the organic (yet abstract) cliff in the upper right, as well as the attempt at creating a sense of foreground, midground and background. It's rare you see a Classic-based screen with the amount of depth this one has to offer.

Thanks DragonDePlatino and anyone else who voted. Had my shot not ended up in Screenshot of the Moon, Lightwulf would have won my vote for being climatic, colourful and readability. NewJourneysFire's is pretty much unreadable, confusing me with the design and perspective choices. It's got a good layout nonetheless. Benji's sticks to one colour thus making it a generic but pretty lava screen and just that; I don't know what else to say. It's got good design but it doesn't scream Screenshot of the Month. Mine suffers from being anti-climatic. Should of added Keese or maybe a few undead creatures to help make it feel less boring.
