I'm playing the non-random version of this quest right now but I'm a bit stumped. Am I supposed to be looking in a certain level for the whistle? Or is it in one of the overworlds???  Thanks for any hints!

If you didn't randomize the items, the whistle will be in Level 4-2, which oddly enough is shaped like a whistle iirc. Level entrances have triangles above their doors when exposed, so bomb places where secrets usually are and you should uncover a decent amount of the 3/4/5 dungeon sets. Look in the southeast beach for 4-2.

You'll need the whistle to beat digdoggers as well as open some levels themselves. Later on there will also be invisible enemies so you'll want to snag the cross. The Roc's feather can really help get around some levels. You'll also need the candle to burn open a lot of level entrances. Most of the other items are optional, I'm thinking about doing a 3 heart run of this in the near future.

On the later levels, I'd suggest a shitload of bombs.

There's a blue and an upgraded red bottle. The blue bottle uses 4 magic and tranfers that to some health. The red uses more but gives way more health back.

If you play the non-random version, it's in one square to the left of the southeastern most point of the overworld. And the whistle is very key. Your best bet is to get it as early as possible.

I posted the locations to each dungeon in Eppy's topic a bit ago if those help.

There's also a list of the expansions hidden within dungeons (which I think is complete) and a checklist for how many items per dungeon in that topic.

I do not see dungeon 1-1. It is the location I am missing

Yeah, the First Quest dungeons are tied to the Light Overworld and the Second Quest dungeons to the Dark Overworld. Most you can enter from either overworld, but some are exclusive to certain overworlds. 1-1 and 2-1 are located on the same spot, but on different overworlds.

So yeah you'll want to go to where Level 1 is in the First Quest on the Light Overworld for 1-1. If you go there in the Dark Overworld it'll be 2-1.

On the eastern shore of the light world, the lower of the two areas with the ladder spots has a super bomb trigger. However, when I blow it up, all I get is the jingle and nothing changes.  Am I missing something or what?
