Hello,

Okay, so ... Where to start?

I am new to the forums and all, and I could not find a specific place to put this topic, so if it is in the wrong spot, please move it! EDIT: It has been moved.

Anyway, I am working on my first quest (what request author isn't?!), and I need quite a few loose tiles, mostly NPC's. I need them for a cut-scene. I need them to be in the style of: http://www.purezc.ne...=tilesets&id=82

List of Loose-Tiles:

*I need a dead Zelda (Perfect way to start a list!) as well as a living Zelda, with animations for moving south.

*I would like some people that look like guards or soldiers, with animations for N/E/S/W, and an attack animation. (Variations in armor design or weapon choice, is appreciated but not required.)

*I would like some fires (EDIT: Forgot to say, I need burning houses...), and broken statues. Basically to make it look like an attack.

*Lastly, I would like villagers (Children, Old People, Adults, etc) that also have animations for N/E/S/W.

*Almost forgot, I need a king with a throne, that moves south (The king not the throne).

Yes, this is probably too ambitious for a first quest, but that's my problem, right?

Now, if this seems far too vague, let me know and I can give much more detail. The reason for the vagueness, is simply for the fact that (Believe it or not!) I am not a very demanding person. My brain simply cannot fathom how one can make art from lines/pixels/what have you. (Not much promise for my quest, huh?!)

I'm not sure if it's worth any consideration, but if describing the cutscene(s) would make it easier to know what sprites I need, I could do that. (I don't think I'm good at describing things.) Again, if more details are needed than feel free to ask, but I mostly just need the animations above, in the style of the tile set I linked to. It was newb friendly (pre-installed scripts!).

Thank you to anyone who helps me! It will be greatly appreciated, and, of course, you'll be mentioned in the credits (Probably the only person, too!).

This post seems unnecessarily long ... Anyway, I figured I could turn this thread into a demo/preview/screenshot thingy, of my quest. But first, I need to learn how to put screenshots up ... ...

Hello, and welcome to PureZC!

I wish I could help you with your requests, but sadly, I can't sprite to save my life. However, I'm going to move this to Developer's Exchange. People who can sprite or more likely to look there, so hopefully that'll help you out. Good luck with whatever you're working on!

Really? No one has the time for at least one or two of these? 3:

There has to be some newbie spriter that wants to become better known, that can do these. (Basically what I'm saying is; they don't have to be AAA quality...)

I couldn't help but notice your request.

While it takes a lot of time to sprite (as well as everything else with ZC), I at least did full Zelda animation sprites, including the death sprite as well. I pulled up the image of LttP NPCs found on Spriter's Resource.com, and used it as a base to make these:

Hope this helps. :)

Thank you very much, this does, indeed help me greatly. It didn't initially occur to me that spriting would require a lot of free time, even when you do not have that many to do. I'll remember that, from now on. :3

Yeah. It took me about an hour to create all those tiles except for the 1st south-facing tile and the one with her arms raised; those were just copied and pasted from above in the tileset (except I did touch up the shading of the arm on the right of the first one).

I know I originally thought it wouldn't take long to make sprites, either. Then, the first time I actually sat down to make a 16x16 sprite from scratch (based off of a sketch), after I was done I looked at the time and saw that it had taken me 30 minutes!   For one sprite! Of course, that was a long time ago and using MS Paint, so it might've taken longer because I had to choose the colors rather than using an existing palette.

Ah, I see. I tried to sprite once. My line of thought was "It's like a simplified art form, so easy!" ... Yeah, no. I used MS Paint, too, ironically. Heheh.

Still, I wouldn't give up. I learned to be a great spriter by studying other sprites. If you pick a style to go with and learn its "rules" of design (such as specific pixel patterns), you'd be surprised what you can create!

Like I said earlier, I was looking at the LttP sprites when I made the above sprites. To do this, I normally zoom in 200%-800% when looking at the picture in MS Paint (web browsers normally fade the pixelation, so I saved the picture and brought it up in MS Paint). The color pattern for the back of Zelda's hair, the design for a maiden laying down, Zelda's forward arm, those were all almost directly taken from the LttP Zelda sprites.

Of course, sometimes it can be tricky; when the sprites are a different size, for example. Sometimes you can't just copy the length of pixels (such as the light lines in Zelda's hair for the north-facing sprite) because it might be too big. You have to adjust the length to fit the size you're using.

Anyway, these are just some tips. Art takes practice, and spriting is art. Don't be afraid to try.

(And speaking of "trying", here's another tip: When developing a sprite, before I make major changes to it, I normally copy the tile(s) I'm working on and paste it (them) elsewhere in the tile page just so I don't forget how it (they) originally looked. When I've completed the final version, I delete only the previous incarnations of the sprite that I'm certain I won't use again.)
