TL;DR:

Update: Nintendo issued Game Front the following statement:

As part of our on-going push to ensure Nintendo content is shared across social media channels in an appropriate and safe way, we became a YouTube partner and as such in February 2013 we registered our copyright content in the YouTube database. For most fan videos this will not result in any changes, however, for those videos featuring Nintendo-owned content, such as images or audio of a certain length, adverts will now appear at the beginning, next to or at the end of the clips. We continually want our fans to enjoy sharing Nintendo content on YouTube, and that is why, unlike other entertainment companies, we have chosen not to block people using our intellectual property.

For more information please visit http://www.youtube.c...yright/faq.html

I don't see why people are getting so bent out of shape about this.  It makes sense; LPers really shouldn't be making money off of playing through a game they didn't make, or at least get permission to make money off of.  If they really just wanted to show the game off, they can do it without monetizing their video.

Actually, this is kind of a relief; I heard about this yesterday and was thinking "claim" as in they'd completely kill all the LPs, which would be an awful move. This is a bit annoying, but it's something I can understand. I kind of don't mind. Just glad we won't be losing our videos.

I never thought they'd completely delete the videos anyway, that wouldn't make sense.  The only people I see whining and complaining are (besides the hardcore fans of these) LPers who do naught but this, monetizing their videos.  If they had a full-time/part-time job along side this, since this is mostly leisure work anyway, this shouldn't be a problem.

If they have a partnership, they can potentially make money off of it. :P

Anyway, I don't really care either way. I do Let's Play for fun and to hopefully show people a game I really like, not for fame or fortune. So if my stuff got slapped with content ID matches, it wouldn't bother me. (Majority of my Ace Combat 4 LP got hit by Namco Bandai with the content ID match - didn't affect me any. :S)

NOPE. I have a partnership and I have my stuff set to not make money off my videos.

So... what happens to people like Chuggaaconroy or Nintendocaprisun now? Will they have to get shitty jobs now and abandon this LP "business"? :(

Some LPers do it for the viewers entertainment, Koh. You kinda make it sound like they're all there to nab money. :/

Those that do it strictly for the entertainment will be the ones that are left.  Everyone else who announces quitting or whatever obviously weren't.

I think you know what I meant. :P Regardless, edited to clarify. Though I didn't actually realize you had a partnership. O_o

I don't think any LP'ers were making money off of it.

One of the biggest examples of an LPer that does it for money is Pewdiepie.  It's actually his day job.  Most of his content isn't Nintendo-related, so he's not affected by this, but there's definitely a lot of LPers that do it for money.  Ego and JonTron over at Game Grumps also make the amount of content they do because of ad money, and they may actually get hurt by this since some of their content is Nintendo-related.  Both of them have millions of viewers and are most definitely making (good) money off of their LPs*.

* I'm not really sure I'd call what Game Grumps do LPs, but they're in the same vain as LPs.

Because I'm lazy and don't utilize any of the extra options I have available to me =P

Believe it or not, there's still such a big opposition on this on some other sites.  I can't give a more perfect example to the advocates of making money off of LPs besides this:

"I recorded a DVD movie. As the DVD is playing in the background, I'm talking about each scene and giving my opinion on it, occasionally cracking jokes. I should be able to sell this recording."

Does that make any sense?

But don't you know, Koh? LPs of games can be done in several ways as opposed to recording a movie. So no, that does not make any sense to me.

This is illegal too.  This is why RiffTrax sells their recordings separately of the actual videos.
