Tell me what you think for my first try of making a custom tile. Should i maybe change the colors of it? any other suggestions? (i used as a base a real world picture of a bonsai tree and first stylized it to reduce colors a bit and make it more cartooney also made the colors bloom to fit zelda colors better and then imported it to zelda classic and adapted colors in various ways there. Any suggestion on how to make it better? feel free to edit that if you like or also submit it if you like after editing it(if you want also feel free to submit it unchanged).

Nice, but those colors are a bit too light.

It looks good, but it doesn't really fit into DoR; the perspective on it is wrong. DoR tiles are viewed in a nearly top-down perspective, while the Bonsai Tree is more of a sideview perspective. On top of that, the colors are a bit strange. Not bad at all, just not suited for DoR.

Hmmmm.... you're doing a good job editing it for ZC, but what people say is true: first of all, yes, the perspective doesn't match DoR. Secondly, it's difficult to see against the background due to the lack of outline and the colors.

This is true. If anyone uses it, it'd be good not to call it a bonsai tree, or call it "the giant bonsai tree," or something. Or just don't refer to it by name at all in the quest. Having full-size trees that resemble bonsai trees is definitely not something that fits in the real world, but it's not too much of a stretch for a fantasy world.

So you think i should maybe open it again in a picture editor program like gimp and change it perspectively like in this picture:

(ignore Link just tell me if this tree perspective fits better its just a mock-up done with gimp

Oh i wanted a tree that looks sufficently weird to fit the zelda series.
Also i want this tree to be one of the huge trees

Any suggestion on how to change the outline maybe black lines around everything (like i did with the grass edges)?
edit:
That would look like this:

When googling for bonsai i can find a lot of trees that would look nice as a zelda tree maybe so if i manage to turn this one acceptable i can maybe turn a lot others into zelda trees

I wouldn't do that to a sprite. Sorry but I don't think this sprite would work well with the other graphics considering it clashes in style, perspective and the colors are overall pretty bad and adding a simple black outline to it all doesn't seem to make it look better. icon_shrug.gif

Any idea how to improve it then? The reason i post it is not only to hear what is wrong but so i hear how to improve it. Because i want to make a lot of bonsai trees once i got this one down right. Also the colors as you can see i posted all csets so they can be changed to some extent.

Then I suggest looking at the other trees in DoR and then take the style of them and the idea of Bonsai Trees and draw your own sprite, or try to edit this one to that style. ^.^

Drawing or redrawing something pixel by pixel is redundant that is why i give up. And this in the thread i think is the best i can do with something that is reproducible for a lot of pictures and can even be automated to some extent. Better automateable results wont be possible for me so i give up.

edit:
I redrew the tile afterall and submitted it for the database. It will be a surprise how it looks but i can say i am very confident about it.
