I read that first line and got suddenly depressed... Then I read the rest of it and, well... I was honestly worried about what would happen to MotM for a while, that was mean!
Anyways, I'm in the contest, so I nulled my vote. Still, if I had voted for somebody (myself not included), I'd have probably voted for Gonken. I really like Minish Cap graphics, and I need to learn how to pattern light and dark colored grass tiles well.
As for the other maps, I liked Hubydweyer's, but I had seen it before for one thing. It did come in a close second, though. Russ's map was pretty good, but I've kind of got a thing against technicolor trees. I don't know why, but I feel that they should all be similar in color. I mean, if you look outside, where would you see bright blue and orange trees? (That, and I've played the quest and spent a long time lost there! I might be just a bit biased, sorry!)
Jared's map wasn't bad, and I really like the palette and how well the LttP tiles blend with the GBC tiles. However, there's a place near the middle where some grey wall tiles transition to brown cliff tiles that looks off to me. I tried to ignore it, but for some strange reason it just kept drawing my eye in anyways.
Finally, Geoffrey's map was unique in how it's 2D, and I really like those when done well. Unfortunately, when I see a map, I try to imagine how it would play out in-game. I cannot see anything resembling a starting point or a route a player would be supposed to take or anything. I would guess it's something like "hit all the crystals", but it's a bit of a turnoff in the same way how I didn't like the original Metroid game. I liked the sequels, but the original was just too confusing.
