I may not be as skilled as Shoelace at splitting things in two, but starting Monday, I will be in the process of splitting our most replied to forum on PureZC, Custom Quest Discussion, into two forums:
- Quest Players' Discussion and Help
- Quest Project Discussion

No longer will these two broad topic types be sharing the same forum, thus improving organization. Starting Monday I plan on doing the following to make the split:
- Rename Custom Quest Discussion as Quest Players' Discussion and Help, thus all the topics from CQD are originally there.
- Create Quest Project Discussion as the new forum, and be moving topics into there, starting with the related pinned topics and then the most recent of ones that belong there. Some really old topics (most likely over a year old) that belong there probably won't be moved here, since there are so many pages of topics to move. However, if somebody wishes to request specific topics about Quest Projects that have been dead for more than a year to be moved here, you can do so in this topic. The topic moving is the longest part of this change, so this might be done over several days.
- All the forums in the Zelda Classic category will likely be reordered as well, but that shouldn't be a big deal.

What about the topics that count as both, like the ToTheTop topic which is both for announcements and help playing? Which half will release announcement topics go under, since they usually also serve as a help topic as well?

Well I guessed it 'started' as a project type-- so its in the project section.

I was hopeing for this I always sigh when I see 4 help topics of the same quest burring other projects.

I would think that the current thread purpose would determine its position; since it's now a help topic it would go in the Quest Players' Discussion and Help forum. Release announcements would go into the the help forum if they were intended to be help threads or into the Project Discussion if they are just an announcement topic and nothing more. I think that makes the most sense.

Wow, awesome change. icon_biggrin.gif I think we've needed this for a while, though in actuality I never gave it much thought to begin with... icon_awesome.gif Anyway, I support this!

You'll be moving my "Project RCS" thread to the Project Forum too, I take it? icon_love.gif I'll have to pack it a lunchbox and a postcard so it doesn't get homesick, hehe...

All right guys, I am going to start working on this stuff right now. So if anything looks awkward, it is only temporary.

As for Pokemonmaster64's question, I will go with Mitch's answer on this one. And yes Schwa, you are correct there.

EDIT: Everything from as far back as June 30 should be in the correct place. Most of them were easy to figure out. If anybody feels I misplaced a topic from that date or more recent, let me know.

Also, feel free to still post in these forums. Just bear in mind that if you are starting a new topic, know which place it goes. I also updated some of the forum descriptions in the ZC category to make things clearer in case anybody is confused.

A great change overall, but this makes me wonder if this new idea is gonna make QPF's obsolete.

About QPFs going obsolete: I disagree. People without QPFs have always had a place to post about their projects. This doesn't change that. It does make those topics easier to find, though. The main difference is that it will take 2-3 times longer for their project thread to fall to page 2. I don't think that's enough to call the QPFs obsolete. You could argue that the QPF thing is dying though, although if you believe that, you have to believe that it has been happening for quite a while now.

Just a quick question; Do links to a topic that used to be in Custom Quest Discussion get automatically redirected to the new link? Does the link even change at all?

If links go to particular topics, it doesn't matter what forum they are in, since topic addresses are not indexed according to the forum they are in.

Just thought I should mention that the name Quest Project Discussion is a bit confusing considering how similar it is to Quest Project Forums. Could it maybe be renamed Quest Announcements and Updates or something like that?

So out of curiosity, which of the Custom Quest topics should one use to post about a new quest they just finished? I just wanna be sure so I don't post it elsewhere by accident.

Can I get any second opinions from anybody on that one? I'd personally be more for renaming Quest Project Forums to Hosted Quest Project Forums if there is anything to be renamed, but that is just my opinion.

If it is finished, it should go in Players' Discussion, since finished projects tend to become help threads, naturally. If it isn't finished, it should go in Project Discussion.

If I need to edit any forum descriptions to make things clearer, I'd be happy to do that. If they need explanations that are too long for the index description, a pinned topic could be created in each forum explaining things.

I asked for this like forever ago because I kept trying to post about a custom quest and all the topics about quest help buried my topic like 2 pages backwards. It was so annoying. This is a great idea, because there really are 2 separate topics in the one board. GENIUS!!! icon_thumbsup.gif
