But I really feel that bosses are so different from regular enemies. Can you really imagine a normal enemy winning over a large-scale boss? In my mind, the bosses would almost certainly win anyway, so changing the category would be meaningless.

I'm wondering if maybe we should remove "scripter of the year" and replace it with the enemy and item categories? That way, we could recognize more people for specific achievements instead of the more general "you make lots of good scripts."

But we do have the EotM contests to recognize enemies, too ...

Agreed with Aevin. Bosses and enemies are like apples and oranges.

Of course! He finished second place last year, as a matter of fact.

Just a quick reminder. We plan to close this thread on Friday and finalize the category list. If you have any additional suggestions, speak up before then!

I've made some proposed changes based on suggestions still keeps it at 20 each and I think covers most of the ground. Thoughts?

Perfect! I really think this greatly reduces redundancy that 2012 was infamous for.

Hm. Would Spriter of the Year be better sounding than Pixel Artist of the Year?

I'd still prefer "Most Anticipated Quest" rather than "Project of the Year" since a highly-anticipated quest doesn't necessarily have to be part of a project.

Hm, I don't think removing scripter of the year was a good idea. Scripting is a big part of ZC. ;)

IMO that list seems perfect to me. Got nothing else to say really.

We may have removed that category, but we replaced it with two more specific scripting categories, widening the scripting recognition overall.

Edit: Actually, item of the year didn't make it into DCE's list. To be honest, I think we're a little too hung up on the "twenty categories" thing, and should focus on picking the categories that work best instead of worrying about an arbitrary number. I still think "Custom Item of the Year" should be included. The idea wasn't to get rid of Scripter of the Year, but to split it up into more specific categories.

If we absolutely had to pick one, I'd prefer the item category over the enemy one since we have Enemy of the Month contests.

I think scripting is the most diverse field of creativity you can hit. I really think good scripter recognition should not be limited to enemy/boss designs. Hypothetically if Blue_Knight comes back with working Z3 scrolling, he wouldn't get any recognition under this system. I don't see the reason why a hardcap of 20 ZC categories needs to be in place, especially when we've discussed roughly 25 viable ones without significant overlap.
