My idea : transform the blue ring like the life update in OoT : instead of changing link's palette, make the hearts palette change.
In thought of two ways of doing this :
- by changing the cset 0's palette
- or by switching subscreens

Is it possible?

Its possible without scripting, actually.

Using 8-bit tiles, you can set the hearts to C-Set 6. Make them turn from red to blue to (insert other color here) to gold.

Simple, no?

First, to stop Link from changing colors, copy the main palette's CSet 6 into CSet 6 of the first extra sprite palette (which is what the blue ring uses). Then, using 256 color mode, make the hearts' border use a color from CSet 6 in the main palette, and change the corresponding color in CSet 6 of the 1st extra sprite palette to white. That way, when Link gets the blue ring, the ESP CSet 6 will be swapped for the normal one and the hearts will change, but Link's colors will stay the same.
