I looked up
Avast
on
Google
out of all of the following 9
YouTube
Yahoo
wikiHow
Google
Blekko
Bing
Ask
AOL (America Online)
.

However I do have some questions regarding
Avast:

#1: Can I use Avast to right click a file and mention to Avast that it is safe (for example if I have an installer that have a working if relative example made by the
Flash
game making program named
Stencyl
can I right click on that installer and mention that itvis a safe installer)?

#2: How long does a trial period last for?

#3: Can I still install harmless files from a harmless installer?

#1: No, you would have to teach it the spoken word first and I'm just not sure how feasible that is.

I do believe Avast has a feature where you can scan files though, I just can't say for sure if you right click a file or if you open it within Avast itself, but just download it and have a look, it's free anyway so you're not going to cause any problems by doing so. Worst case scenario you just uninstall it.

#2: The trial for the paid versions is 30 days, but there is a free version that has no trial. Just go with that one if you're not gonna pay. I have to wonder though, why are you asking about this kind of stuff on Pure? Wouldn't it be more beneficial for you to go to something like a computer help forum, there's a lot of those around. Tom's Hardware is one I've used, and r/buildapc have been very helpful as well - and on top of that they'll have more knowledge than most members here anyway. Still though, information like how long the trial period is of Avast, is clearly printed all over Avast's download pages. You said you looked it up on a bunch of different websites, but in the future I think you should begin with the programs own, because a lot of the information you're asking about is stuff they would want their customers to know. Meaning you shouldn't have to go ask questions on a Zelda-forum, heh. Not that you can't also do that, I'm just saying it might make things easier for you in the future to look into these things. ;)

Not sure about Avast, but I know Microsoft Security Essentials (which is what I use along with MalwareBytes) has an option for quick scans if you right click any file(s) including .exes, and .zip/ rars. If you are worried about viruses that much, there are browser add-ons for programs like MSE, and AVG (which I don't personally recommend as it is a resource hog) that let you scan links before even downloading them. I think even MalwareBytes has this option, but you'll just have to check.

The golden rule is, don't download stuff from sketchy sites. If it is an official site, or a site linked to from the official site, the program is probably legit, unless, of course, the program itself is the malware, but you can always do more research, or read reviews, or youtube it.

Or, if you are really worried about viruses get a Mac :tard:

You're not going to avoid every 'virus' or malware. That's like saying you never get sick.

Avast is a great choice for protection. It also doesn't weasel it's way into your system like McAfee. (Adobe is sneaky scum.)

I get Avast's free version, SUPERAntiSpyware, and MalwareBytes from www.ninite.com - A wonderful catch-free site that lets you download many useful and common programs all at once without having to click more than a few times. It's a fire-and-forget sort of thing. Do it.

With Avast's actual installer, rather than ninite's, I recommend avoiding its SafePrice AddOn. It's a little dicey. Everything else is fine thoughh. Been using Avast for years, and am quite happy with it.

Remember, having an Antivirus is like white blood cells. As Tim said, just because you have them doesn't mean you don't get sick. We all do, (hopefully) but we still get sick. It's just a matter of how many times you want to get sick and how.

If you're hyper paranoid, you could always upload the file to VirusTotal.  It scans the file with 40 different anti-virus/malware solutions.  Expect a false positive if you're downloading a crack/keygen/warez.

They already add Virustotal spams to their posts.
