is there a way to load a cset from an image?

I am trying to get a very specific color value and the color editor sucks

also I can't copy a color over to another cset

I don't think you can, but then again, I've never tried. I believe you can only use palette files to import colors and csets.

Click "Grab" in the palette editor, and you can choose an image to load into a CSet.

As for copying CSet colors, this might help; Another option would be using an image editor outside of ZQ and take the RGB value of the color you want, divide the components (Red value, Green value, Blue value) by 4, and then when editing a CSet "input" the values using the Home/End keys for Red, Up/Down keys for Green, and Page Up/Down for Blue.

It's worthwhile learning about how images store palette data in general so you can easily make a palette elsewhere and import it into ZC. Unfortunately most people are only familiar with MSPaint, and MSPaint offers no control over palette data. I highly suggest downloading Graphics Gale (the free version is fine) which allows you to easily create 16-colour images. Just set up the palette in GG exactly how you would in ZQuest, then you can load that image's palette directly into the cset editor. If you want to work with several csets at a time, make a 256-colour image instead of a 16-colour. Each row of the 256-colour palette can be directly imported as a cset.

The other upside to this is that you can easily draw tiles in GG too, and if you import the csets you can directly import the tiles into the tile editor without the need for any recolouring.
