It was the year the most change in my life has occurred for sure. I spent almost all year looking for a job since I graduated with my Bachelor of Computer Science degree back in December 2015. Full of responseless applications, rejections before any interviews, and so on. Then finally sometime mid November, I got a response back from the company Revature to move things forward, which after a normal interview and a technical interview, I passed and was hired. Currently undergoing the pretty brutal 10 week training (week 3 just ended), but I am learning a lot of new things, so it's pretty interesting. They paid to move people up here to Reston Virginia, and they're also providing housing during the training, and during the process of waiting to be placed on a work project. Once you're assigned to whatever work, you have to move out to whereever you need to go. Unassigned you earn just over minimum wage, $8/hour, but assigned you earn $24.04/hr, about $50K per year.
I've only ever known my own neighborhood, in terms of a place to call home, so I had to leave all that behind for this, and it was a bit exciting and melancholic at the same time. But I'm meeting new people and finally starting the next chapter on my life, so nothing to do but go forward!
As for everything else about 2016, it was a whirlwind of craziness. Lots of celebrity deaths, and of course the crazy political environment. But the latter turned out just as I expected it too, so there were no surprises there for me. I'm interested in seeing what happens in this sphere in the #CurrentYear.
