So... I've kind of hinted for a while that I'm eventually going to start another Metroid project. I think I'm just about ready to start work on it; but first I wanted some suggestions on the name.

As you can see from the poll, I've come up with a few options but haven't settled on anything yet. Before you can make any judgment, here's a brief synopsis of the game and what it'll include.

Story-

Shortly after the events of Metroid: Origins, Samus Aran has tracked the location of the Galactic Federation team which visited the uncharted planet G.F. #8791 to a system where she finds a military base being run by the mysterious Colonel she encountered at the conclusion of Metroid: Other M.

Upon landing, she is ambushed and knocked out; stripped of her various abilities. Her captor claims it was to protect the delicate work being done by the scientists on the planet from the rogue Metroid that had joined Samus in her previous adventure since there was no way to know for certain whether or not it had affected her or posed a threat to them.

Getting free with the aid of an old friend, Samus sets out to recover her abilities and explore the surface; learning the secrets of the planet along with what the military is doing there. On the way, she encounters various obstacles and new foes and allies who assist in the completion of her mission.

Gameplay-

Mostly sticking to Super Metroid style, with the addition of Morph Ball Cannons, the Spider Ball and various upgrades from Metroid: Origins. Plans are for entirely new bosses guarding each of the major upgrades along with 10 large overworld sections. Please suggest names for these as well.

The areas are as follows:

1. Orbiting Starship- the place where the bulk of the military force is stationed and where the game ends.

2. Research Laboratory- located on the edge of an ocean, it is heavily fortified.

3. Ocean Depths- These hold the prison where Samus escapes from as well as other secrets.

4. Mines- A region with some heated areas where large quantities of ore are extracted.

5, Jungle- a wildlife preserve at the edge of the lab, where native flora and fauna are studied.

6. Trackless Desert- on the west side of the ocean, lies a barren waste.

7. Caverns- beneath the jungle runs a network of interconnecting passages.

8. Icy Heights- above the desert is a series of cliffs that are frozen solid.

9. Floating Refinery- in the skies of the jungle is an automated facility of Chozo origin.

10. Metroid Hive- beneath the seas are hidden these dangerous creatures.

I'm not exactly sure on the length just yet, but it's definitely going to be rather large.

Please vote in the poll or post your ideas for the name of the games or its areas.

I voted for redemption cause based in the info, it sounds pretty fitting, but I think they're all decent, and certainly Metroid-y enough.

I think the area names are fine as is. The only thing I'd change is "starship" to something like "station" or "space station" unless it functions more like a starship in that it can move, and isn't just locked to orbiting one planet. :P

Redemption was my original working title, though now that I've suggested Oblivion I'm also liking that (or something similar like Project Oblivion).

I'd probably use at least two words for each area (rather than call a place Caves, Mines or Jungle). Something like the Metroid Prime trilogy seems fitting. The starship/station could also be what the game is named after, since getting to the heart of what is going on there is the ultimate objective.

I like Redemption myself. The story sounds interesting too, although I don't remember the Colonel from Other M that you mentioned. I should probably watch some videos to refresh myself on the story.

The project itself sounds promising. I look forward to seeing how it develops.

I don't think that the game actually calls him a Colonel; although some of the research I've done on both official (and unofficial) sources suggests that there's a connection between him and the events of Metroid: Fusion.

So, the question arises; what happens to these characters after Other M? My objective is to provide a partial answer to that mystery.

In case anyone who's interested hasn't voted yet, I'm leaving this open for another week or two. In the meantime, I've worked up a preliminary list of area names.

Areas:

Planet Jocasta
Starship Invidia
Metroid Hive
Rhadamantine Mines
Lethean Desert
Cybelene Mountains
Diomedian Jungle
Sthenic Caves
Tethys Ocean
Aion Laboratories
Maldium Refinery

I've culled a number of sprites from a wide variety of games (many very obscure) for boss ideas. I won't post anything about them just yet, since I haven't actually made the bosses where I can say for certain that I'm going to include them. Also, if anyone recognizes the sprites for the creatures when the game becomes playable, there's a fairly good chance that I'm not going to emulate their original tactics or patterns.

I've officially closed the poll. Here are the results.

Metroid : Redemption-  6 votes- 46%

Metroid : Resurrection- 4 votes- 30%

Metroid : Oblvion-         3 votes- 23%

Since Metroid: Redemption seems to be the favorite (and was also my original idea); I'm going with that.
