Man it would totally suck getting into Pokemon now, the digital-only manual barely tells you anything. You'd have to look everything up online (and weed out the misinformation) to learn anything about how the game is played beyond the controls (in order to learn even the basic strategies, etc.) Unbelievable.

EDIT:

More complaints: Why can't you mark Pokemon in the Bank?

I don't know the manuals of older pokemons, but has it been any different?

I think they explain mostly everything you need to know ingame.

Well, "need to know" is open to interpretation. I think every mechanic and meta aspect is need to know :P

They're very vague about IV's and EV's and those are meta defining.  Egg moves you have to look up online.  You have to look up online which Pokemon are in which egg groups so you know if they can produce an egg.  There's a lot more, but that's what I can first think of.

In order to get into Pokemon at a casual, entry level, nothing is required. It is simply easy to just pick up and play for the story.

However, in order to reach the top level of play, you need to know how to manipulate Natures, EVs, IVs, know Egg groups and know Egg Moves. Nowadays, EVs and arguably Egg Groups are easy enough to learn; but the mechanics of passing down IVs and Egg Moves are still vauge and difficult to learn.

Thankfully, Sun/Moon made various things like EVs and IVs more clear and easy to manipulate. There is now a judge that lets you know what IVs your pokemon have and the pokemon's EVs can be seen on the status screen. Egg groups are and have always been based off the form of the pokemon (eg. human-shape corresponds to ones that are anthropomorphic in stature, field corresponds to pokes like Eevee and Rattata, etc.). Back before Gen VI, it was almost impossible to find out how EVs and IVs work on your own and you needed to manipulate the RNG to get the pokemon with proper IVs and Nature.

Mega stones for Medicham, Mawile, Audino and Beedril are being given through an event with a code, said code is INTIMIDATE. No need to enter some stupid competition to get them.

It's much better this way, but all the mega stones should have been in the games at release regardless if the pokemon was in the game at release or not.

Really sounds like Stars will be announced soon; such a shame- Eclipse would have been such a better name, the Sun is already a star after all.

Some more codes to get more mega stones. M2DESCENT for both Mewtwo mega stones and AZUL for Pidgeot, Steelix, Heracross and Houndoom mega stones.

Most likely going to play my Sun version again when all the mega stones are eventually in the game..

Don't think it needs its own thread, but Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon was announced. So, it's actually a third version like Pokemon Platinum, Crystal and Emerald? It sure looks like it.
