So, for a while I've been working on bringing to life a lot of the items and gimmicks seen in the Metroid series. I recently had a suggestion of doing a Kirby game and while I haven't gotten around to that yet (mostly due to lack of enthusiasm), I have been trying to come up with some new ideas for things you can do in a sideview quest.

I've seen a lot of high quality sideview quests recently (such as Zodiac: Story of the Guardian, Freedom in Chains, Panoply of Calatia and Forbidden Ascent) but I'm personally out of ideas for new stuff to include. I haven't played a lot of Mega Man or Sonic, but I am reasonably familiar with Mario, Donkey Kong and Kirby.

Unfortunately, comprehensive tiles for Sonic and Donkey Kong don't exist (that I'm aware of) so doing anything with them would involve a rather prohibitive amount of work. I know that Saffith recently released a demo of Crash Man's level from Mega Man but I was unable to finish it and don't recall that the scripts were made available.

Here's a short list of things I've thought of which I might include in a future project that I've yet to invent. If you have any ideas of your own, please post them. Also, if I write any scripts as a result of this; they'll be posted here publicly.

1. Air Vent/Trampoline- Blows you up into the air, allowing you to reach targets which would be otherwise inaccessible.

2. Launch Tube- Sort of like the Shine Spark but for a 16 x 16 character to shoot in one direction until they hit a wall.

3. Spider Ball- Just like Metroid 2, if possible.

4. Barrels- Like in Donkey Kong, that follow the surface.

5. Sideview Push Block- I think that either Freedom In Chains or Forbidden Ascent did this, but I haven't myself; though I have a few ideas of how to accomplish it.

6. Hover- Think Kirby's floating ability.

7. Door in Midair- A Kirby staple.

8. Variable/Reverse Gravity- Some areas/rooms have either more or less (or no) gravity or you jump off of the ceiling.

9. Treasure Chest- You know, those things you have to stand in front of and open to get stuff? The standard combos probably wouldn't work as well in sideview, so something else would have to be done.

10. Damage Combos- In sideview, normal damage combos don't work quite right. So, they really need scripting.

I'm not listing the panoply of Mario and Castlevania items here, since they're simply too numerous. (Also, fairly good versions of many Castlevania things exist as part of StdWeapons.zh.)

Now I'd like to hear your suggestions for things from sideview games to put into a quest. Please feel free to use as an example any existing game that has sideview, but I'd appreciate a video or screenshot reference if at all possible. Thanks in advance for your participation!
