Three solid shots!

Joelmacool
A nice, cozy, atmospheric winter scene. Good detail. Might be a little annoying for a player to enter the screen at the left of the bottom entrance, but that's a pretty minor flaw.

Lut
The perspective is almost dizzying at first, but in the end, the diagonal walls end up looking surprisingly natural. Maybe a little more shading would be appropriate for the north-side doorways, but that's about it. Voted here.

Dimentio
A competent classic cave shot. I like the rock tiles and unsaturated background. This type of shot would win my vote most weeks, but the competition was stiffer this time around.

I voted Joelmacool.

I wanted to vote for Lut since the design is amazing, but it took a while to actually register the screen. It's monochrome which makes it harder to tell what's what at times. Having shadows or different colours for walls and floors (maybe a dark brown-ish red to go with the green) might help a ton. Dimentio's is fairly basic but for what it is it's decent and (as mentioned above) competent.

I liked Lüt's best. I agree that with Shane that more color variety would definately help (but at the same time that might kill the NES-ness and end up looking like LttP).

If it is, you aren't able to go this way as there are boulders under the trees :)

I phrased that badly. I meant that if you enter the screen from the bottom into the lower-elevation area, you might immediately run into a wall and have to shift over to use the ladder depending on your placement.

Joelmacool - Very nice snowy shot here, I really like the house and the design of the screen overall. Layout looks good and it feels very winter-like. Nice job.

Lut - Wow, this is a really nice screen. I do agree that the monochrome colours is an issue with a kind of screen like this, so colour variety can definitely make it look nicer, but you done a really good job with the diagonal walls and the several different layers. Really good work here.

Dimentio - Nice and simple cave shot, the waterfalls in the background definitely add more to the screen and makes it looks quite nice.

Was a very tough choice between Joel and Lut, but I'm going for Lut this week.

You still can  :awesome:

But, yeah... *shrug* that's just how NES dungeons roll. See, the thing with this setup is that I had to expand the palettes to include in-between colors for the middle level. That took up a second row in the CSet. I also decided to include yellows for triforce entry-room tiles, and that took up the remaining two rows. And because there's 3 possible levels to every dungeon, every new color I add has to have 3 variations so there can be a matching tile on each level. This puts a rather strict limit on how many colors I can add, and where I can add them. Like, here, check a sample screen I threw together:

Spoiler

The issue is that with CSet 2 being full, other colors had to be relegated to CSets 3 and 4, and because there's not enough room to add 6 or 7 variations of each color, you can't cycle through CSets to consistently change the tile colors since the color shades won't line up between CSet 2 and 3/4. For example, here's CSet 2 and 3 for the Level 3 palette:
Spoiler

I'm trying to support nature options in the dungeons, so sets of 3 colors max are necessary to fit in all the options. To be honest, the setup is still experimental. The possibility of 8-bit tiles exists, but that would mean double the amount for CSet 3/4 tiles, and my tile pages are running low on space. And even without them, to do whole new sets of dungeon tiles for color variations of floors and walls... I mean, if you saw how many tiles there are already, you might reconsider. For example, I've already broken the possibility of those CSet 3/4 blocks some people like to use for candle-lit rooms, which is stepping outside my original goal to fully retain default NES palette support, and if you look at some of those block variations in the second combo column, it's just too much to add back the red/purple shades, not to mention doing it 3 times over.

I mean, it's not that I disagree. I like the multi-colored classic dungeons I've seen. King Aquamentus pretty much won that category with the Magic & Fantasy setup. I'd love to have a thing like that. But I have to keep things remotely accessible here, since this is a tileset project, not a quest (I just make these test screens to be sure the tiles are working properly), so it's meant for other people, not just me, and I worry the current amount of tiles might scare a few people off already. I'm certainly open to suggestions though, but I don't think this is the place for it.

#Joelmacool

Great winter-themed shot. I like Santa being there.  :P

snow also looks pretty good.

Overall, really good shot. fits the time of year pretty well.

#Lut

Pretty unique design going on here...

But it's kinda confusing my eyes a bit. :eyeitus:

Overall, really good!

#Dimentio

Good classic shot.

It looks just like an authentic NES screen.

Would've voted for this one, but i decided on Joelmacool.

Pretty good, though!
