This is something I've wondered about for a while here on Pure. When I was younger, I'd say it like, "Geh-rudo", but for some reason I switched to the other way in the last few years. Maybe it's just easier to say that way? So how do you say it? I've heard it both ways. Way 1 is more in line with English phonetics, while way 2 is more in line with the Japanese pronunciation.

I think it's supposed to be the first, but I've always said it with a "J" sound at the beginning.

Random note, the Geldman enemies from A Link to the Past (as well as the more-unknown Geldarm from The Adventure of Link) begin with "Gerudo" in the Japanese pronunciations.

Jeh-ru-do-ma-nu

I can see it. Yeah, I think the "J" way is the 'correct' way too, since it was made by Japanese people. :P

I've always said it with a hard G, and I believe that's how it's supposed to be pronounced. Jerudo just sounds kinda goofy to me when I hear it. Also it looks like there's some Gerudo settlement in the latest BotW trailer, so unless that game has Morrowind-level voice acting discrepancies, this age-old arguement should be settled in just a few weeks.

Number Top Option for me. It's how I've always said it, and I have questioned it's accuracy at times. I would have to agree that Letter Bottom Option is the correct way to say it.

... huh. Did poll options switch at some point? I swore the second option was for hard G, not J... Well I edited my first post to fix that mistake.

I did switch them after about two minutes of the poll being up cause I got  them mixed up in my first post, and thought it was easier to edit the poll than the post. :P

Actually, G in Japanese only has one pronounciation: "geh". if it's "jeh" as in "jelly", it's always with a J. that's why the transliteration of the japanese pronounciation of "G" is "jii", not "gii"- the latter would be hard GEH sound. So, it's "GEH-roo-doh"

Random note, the Geldman enemies from A Link to the Past (as well as the more-unknown Geldarm from The Adventure of Link) begin with "Gerudo" in the Japanese pronunciations.

that's more because of how the japanese language works. you can't just end on a consonant other than N, because every character ends in a vowel (except "n" alone). It's why "Ronald", or "Donald" in japan, is pronounced "Donarudo", which could be transliterated as "Donaldo", instead of "Donald". Also why it's "ru" instead of just "r" right before the "do". It's PROBABLY just a coincidence that all three start with "Gerudo"...or maybe not. We may never know unless we ask the devs. lol

I've always pronounced it with the hard G. Only once have I ever met someone who pronounces it with a J.

Now...About the word "deku"...

The japanese wikipedia page spells it as ゲルド, which is closest to GAY-ROO-DOUGH.

So you're all wrong. :P

I have always pronounced it as "ger-rude-do". I can't be the only one who pronounces the name like that.

GAY-ROO-ROUX-DOUGH.

That's my food porn name.

Interesting results though. I was under the impression I was in the minority, but I guess not lol. And on the subject of Japanese pronunciation, they call me "Ah-Rek-Su" at work. :P

"Go-ah-ooh-ld" "Gwah-rud-oo." And vallety is pronounced "Valeigh"/"Vuh-Lay" in their case.

Nahh, actually I've always guessed option 1. But I wasn't sure what the official pronunciation was myself.
