The only thing I can really go on is my instinct/gut feeling.

Nah, an all powerful bearded man is much more likely than some half fish half human magical creatures living in a secret society outside of our own. However, an artificially created mermaid in the future? I could see that happening.
The bearded man at least has an entire book pertaining to his existence.
I'd like to argue that IMO it's not much more likely. It's still just as unlikely, but it is indeed much more "culturally accepted" to believe in. However, I'll end it here because that's one big can of worms I don't want to open today.
The only thing I can really go on is my instinct/gut feeling.
I'd try not to mistake instinct/gut feeling for wishful thinking. Sorry to crush your dreams, but they just do not exist in any way shape or form.

While there are certain things you can rely on instinct and intuition for (they've evolved for a reason), things such as the existence of mermaids aren't really some of those things. The gut feeling they exist is most likely just a desire for them to exist. How your gut feels has no bearing on the reality of the situation. In the absence of evidence, ad in fact, evidence to the contrary, it seems far wiser to be skeptical of their existence. The only thing I can really go on is my instinct/gut feeling.

LOL i remember a game, E.V.O., where mermaids evolved from dolphins and whit a kiss they can inflict more damage of the bite of a t-rex!
returning on topic...who know...on our planet such evolution is a bit improbable, but the universe is immense, so maybe in some strange planet something similar to a memaid exist....

Yes, but only if it is like in Family Guy where the top half is fish, and the lower half is human.
That concept was actually put forth by the French surrealist Rene Magritte.

Do you think they are real?
no
Much like the concept of an all-powerful bearded man in the sky, I think half-fish half-human hybrids are nothing but fairy tales.
awwww yeah bringin out the edge

Since there is no proof for existence, there also is no definition for an actual mermaid. Might be possible there is or was something out there that could be described as mermaid while being completely different from what we imagine it to be.
On a side note, while I doubt anyone here is really disturbed by it, we have the lower part of a (drawn) naked woman.

I'd come up with the joke... "A mermaid walks into a bar...", but they can't exactly walk, can they?
Mermaids are not real, but they can be real to anybody who believes in them strongly enough. But I suppose that can be true about anything that is fiction. Even though they are not real, that isn't a bad thing necessarily, as they can make for great stories. As for me though, I more prefer a fish by the name of Wanda.

But in all seriousness i doubt they exist. But to be fair there is still a lot of ocean yet to be explored thoroughly, So who knows.

I think mermaids are interesting in fiction but I don't believe they're real.
Also The Little Mermaid is my favorite mermaid.

There is something extremely fishy about this entire thread.
