I'm thinking "sci-fi" in the sense of distant planets, spaceships, battleships, mechs, that kind of thing. I know that's not the general definition, so maybe I should just start saying "space game."

I hate Metroid Prime 3 because the areas aren't inter-connected and for some dumb reason they decided to make most environmental stuff unscannable. It doesn't help that you're constantly told where to go and what to do next either.

Lest we forget the last time we had a Metroid game with a heavy story focus...

I personally liked Other M, though it could have been done a lot better. I feel that doing a Metroid game with story is possible, if done correctly. Something like the Scan data system from the Prime series always seemed like it works best to me, where the story is told through these little snippets of information you have to find yourself.

I believe at the Switch event someone asked Reggie if there would be a new Metroid game on the Switch, to which he replied something along the lines of "We've heard our fans and read the message boards on this matter". Of course, I'm fairly certain that's word for word what he's been saying about Mother 3 for years, so who knows.

There was an interview (I think it was on GameSpot of OutsideXBox) with Reggie where he basically preemptively indicated that they were aware of the demand for more Metroid but had nothing else to offer at the moment.

To be honest, how many Metroid games have there been? One for NES, one for GB, one for SNES, two(technically) for GBA, 2 for GC, 2 for Wii, 1 for DS (not counting Pinball) and one for 3DS. That's only eleven games for the series.

Comparitively, Zelda had 2 for NES, 1 for GB, 1 for SNES, 2 for GBC, 1 for GBA, 2 for DS, 2 for N64, 2 for GC, 1 for Wii, 1 for 3DS and now one for Switch. (Not counting re-released games). And don't get me started on how many Mario games there have been.

I'd love to see a new Metroid as much as the next person, but until they create one I'll have to be content with making my own.

If they make another Metroid I want a 2D one. But honestly.. It's gonna be hard to top the control and fluidity of AM2R. Best fan game I ever played. They could even do a 2.5D side scroller as long as it is fun.
