I've always been a big fan of the hammer, but the one in A Link to the Past (and ZC) is pretty boring. Because of that a lot of people just use the sword twice instead, which is why I wanted a more interesting hammer. 
 
Here's a video of how it works in A Link Between Worlds:

As you can see, you can walk around while holding the hammer. But just like a Spin Attack charge,  Link can only look in the direction he was looking in when he took out the hammer. (And he can only attack with the hammer in the direction he's looking in) If possible, id like to have the Link walking animations for holding the hammer use tiles 10240-10247 for up, 10260-10267 for down, 10280-10287 for left and finally 10300-10307 for right. If it's too hard, it could just use the Spin Attack charging animations.
It'd be nice if Link could walk a little slower when he's holding the hammer, but that's not really necessary.
 
In the video you can see link holding and attacking with his hammer while looking diagonally. But this should not be a part of the script. Link should only be able to look up, down, left and right.
The animations for when Link is attacking with his hammer should be his normal ones, as in the Link Pound animation* to the Link Stabbing animation*.
The HAMMER animation for when Link is attacking should also be the normal hammer one, as in the "Weapon/Misc sprite 25: Hammer"(tiles 22701-22709, a three frame animation where the left attacking sprite is just the right animation flipped)
When the hammer is held over Links head, it should use the first frame of the attacking hammer sprite for that specific direction. (I really hope that made sense)
 
The hammer should also send out a shockwave on impact, which stuns nearby enemies. The shockwave does not need to be visible though. This could just use the effect of the "Quake Hammer Scroll" in ZC.
 
I'd like the hammer to activate Combo Flag 89 (Hammer Trigger) and to make it a hammer "defense flag" for enemies. But if that's not possible, it could activate Combo Flag 102 (General Purpose 5 (Scripts)) and the script "defense flag".
 
If it's possible, the Hammer could also "active" Bush->Next and Slash->Next combos.
This feature is NOT needed at all, but I would appreciate if it was included.
 
I really hope this made sense.
 
*Not really an animation since it's just one tile-thing.

I think this was actually a bug in old 2.5 betas. :D
