I'm kind of surprised no one made a topic for this yet. I usually don't watch the Grammy's, but this year was kind of cool (Beyonce, A Tribe Called Quest, Gaga/ Metallica, in-spite of mic failure). What did you guys like about the Grammy's? I usually DVR it to skip the BS, but I didn't skip too much this time.

If you are an Adele fan, you may be mildly offended, but I do like her. So... She swept it. I kind of saw this coming, but damn. I think her first 2 albums are good, and she has a hell of a voice. But I was kind of annoyed that she won song, and album of the year for Hello/ 25. I mean.. I get it, anthems are her thing, but this one is not that great. Lionel Richie already wrote a song called "Hello". The lyrics are generic, and boring, and there is little in the way of layering or textures for the song. Anyway, good for her, she is decently talented, but (as he goes full Kanye) Beyonce had the better album. Not that this effects the votes, as this is all predetermined before the event, but still, her performance had me thinking she was gonna win Album of the year. That shit was awesome. I mean, it doesn't really matter, but I was kind of annoyed by something else. Adele got to restart her George Michael tribute. Like, she just stops, and apologized profusely before restarting. So.. what happens when James Hetfield's mic stops during their song with Gaga? Well, the show must go on I guess cause they didn't get any restarts (granted.. that's technically more professional, I just really wanted to hear it, as I love Metallica, and Lady Gaga..)

I didn't care about chance the rapper, or any of those little white, country pop-tarts that got on stage (Except the Urban/ Underwood duet, she's cute af). Then there was one other country act I really liked. They sounded like a more complex Johny Cash, but I can't remember.

This is my opinion. I'm not an expert, or even anyone you should ever listen to, so yeah, what did you think? :P

Yeah, Bowie did get best rock song. I own the full deluxe vinyl version of that album it is the only vinyl record I own. I forgot to mention this, but I was a little bummed that Modest Mouse got no nominations for Strangers to Ourselves, but it may have come out before the deadline, and I don't recall if it was at last year's Grammy's, or if I even watched last year's show.

I'm pretty sure the above picture of MJ is from whichever Grammys Thriller was at. He won like 7 Grammy's that year.

Actually, I think it was 8. It was 1984. I wasn't born yet : ) Buuut I've read about it because I was big into Michael Jackson for a while, although mostly just the albums Thriller, Bad, and Victory (wanted to like his later stuff but couldn't get into most of it). I still have "Beat It" on my playlist, actually, as that was my biggest favorite of his.

I haven't really kept up with new music very consistently... I think the last album I listened to when it was still new was Tally Hall's second album back in 2011, and a New Pornographers album a year or two before that. As with many things, I tend more often to go back and try out older stuff I missed, or just sort of drift to whatever catches my attention. I listen to a lot of instrumental videogame music, anime music (especially from the 1992-1997 Sailor Moon, and from Love Hina and Negima), and weird random stuff, like pop music from the 80s, 90s, 00s, and sometimes even the 60s. My music tastes are kinda halfway-otaku (if you'll forgive the term used solely in self deprecation), and then halfway all over the place. Not a lot of hard rock or rap though, and no country.

David Bowie, though never an artist I obsessed about, had some excellent songs (I liked Starman and Space Oddity), and I knew someone who was really really into him. He will be missed.
