Could be someone else who suggested something like a sky area for his quest not too long ago. Also need to give Passage a new try some day ;) The things about palettes are rather easy, needs only a bit of explanation. My biggest problem is that this shortcut is a bit big. Obviously faster than going by feet but from the snow area to the water area its a long trip. Though no idea how this map actually works :D

I guess I finished a map which might be used in whatever context in the future - there is a fully fleshed story behind this village. Not really looking for criticism (I would have posted this in the critique thread otherwise) just thought I'd show it off. I know this goes against the "Detail. Detail! DETAIL!"-mentality since the map is void of typical details but I prefer clean readable screens with a bit more logic in the detailing process which is why I also tend to avoid DoR these days.

I think it looks plenty fine. I can be a detail freak, but I can also tell the difference between being detailed and being crowded, and I think you pulled of the separation very well. As far as colors go, the grass could probably use more contrast to match everything else, but I'll assume that's the way the tileset came and leave it at that.

I would imagine the grass is low contrast so that the higher contrast objects and characters don't blend in too much.

I don't like the stones you walk on, they look blueish and too smooth. I love your stone tablet.

...who's the most confusing of them all?

(BTW you forgot to flip the tiles too.)

I did think about flipping the tiles, but decided not to cause you can only tell on a few, like dungeon entrances, and trees.

An ancient castle that lies atop a lonely mountain... What secrets could it hide?

Well, since the castle area I was working on doesn't hold a candle to this, I give up!

That is one cool map though, in all seriousness.

Progress:

The forest is subject to be redone (except for the fairy fountain and the dungeon entrance): the screens look too random for my liking.

I like that map. It reminds me of the Z1 overworld. Was that intentional?

Yeah, you're right. Haven't seen the BS map in a long time.
