More Walkthroughs Should Go With Custom Quests

A good hint to stuck people: PM the quest maker.

I'd rather they post in these forums, PM's get to be kinda old.
I never know when I'm going to be around, and PM's from here, AGN, and Elise's board I have set up to email me in case something truely important comes up, and they fill up my inbox with questions that have either been answered on the forums, or should be answered on the forums.

Perhaps keep something in your signature concerning that? Since (IMHO) all that you seem to have in your signature so far are links to all the relevant places, perhaps you can consider placing a nice bold, red label in there, (nicely centered of course. (lol, I'm such a spaz. XD ) ) that would state your desires concerning your quests and PM's?

Thats a good idea. But I would do a spoiler free walkthrough with no secrets reavealed and no story parts reavealed. Just if you get stuck in a dungeon or something.

Actually, now that you've mentioned it... I HAVE planned to make a complete walkthrough for Molka, but I never got around to doing it. (I have a lust for creativity; I've planned to write a walkthrough for all my other game-projects and Rom Hacks, too.) Thanks for reminding me.
I think walkthroughs would be a great idea for any Quest... but never included in the Zip. Instead, there should be either a section on PureZC for "Official Strategy Guides" (only if we ever have a large amount, though), or host them on some site.
Then there's always the option of FAQs, which are walkthroughs in Txt format written by people other than the author. GameFaqs.com has thousands of these, of course; the diference between them and ZC FAQs, though, is that ZC Quests are usually made by one guy, not a whole company. Not a huge difference, but with Quests it would be pathetic NOT to ask the author permission to write the FAQ, since there's only one guy. (Correct me if I'm wrong, but those who write FAQs for, say, Nintendo games, probably don't ask Nintendo permission to write the FAQs.)

Meh, for my quest, Im just gonna make it so if you beat the entire game, at the end I tell you the password for the game. I dont see what harm it could do if someone has already beaten it.

I love typing, so I would consider making one for a quest if I had some motivation...
But it is up to the quest maker...

Sorry, but I would argue to the contrary...
When I get a PM or an AIM asking for help on a quest.... well, my first reaction is to be friendly and helpful, of course. But if the question gets to be more than just a quick pointer, what I feel like I'm doing is writing an individual FAQ "to order" for every person who asks.
Take the origins of the abbreviation: Frequently Asked Questions. Sure, most game FAQs tend to be comprehensive information depositories these days, but the original purpose still holds true. There's information that, as a gamemaker, I want to release. Why not do it officially rather than give "private hints" to random people who ask? If I do that I have to rewrite answers repeatedly, and nobody gets the benefit of one answer but the person who sent the PM. So to me, an FAQ is a complete and organized method of releasing useful info.
As for FAQs for console games, I'm all for them. Sometimes games end up hard. Sometimes they have a flaw where something is harder than the designer ever intended. Why let one small flaw act as an impassable roadblock to enjoying the game? I felt that way about Majora's Mask: I like a challenge, but it was a little beyond what I wanted to explore without help, so I got an FAQ and was able to enjoy it in its entirety without being stuck for weeks having to repeat the same game events.
If you dislike FAQs because you feel someone should have to earn enjoyment... really, you should deflate your head a little bit. They're just games. If they're 1-player, one person can enjoy it however he/she wants without truly affecting how someone else plays it. Online games are different -- since sometimes you can impede on other people's enjoyment -- but 1-player...you should play a 1-player game in whatever manner you enjoy most.
Anyway, I like FAQs. I will continue to release them for my quests, and even tilesets. I won't say everyone SHOULD release them, but I'd recommend it for other questmakers as a way of making sure people don't give up on their quest just because they're stuck.

People should only use walkthroughs if they REALLY "need" them. (like I do) If you can't figure something out, then just ask someone on the forums for help.

Ever seen the complete walkthrough for Tales of Symphonia? It's an 80 hour game and the walkthrough is so huge that it's bolonga just writing one! If you need help with a quest just make a help thread like the HOD Help thread. Other than that it's super hard to make a walkthrough.
