I found this really weird manga online. It's so bizarre, I have this unbearable curiosity as to what it says. The thing is, it's all in Japanese, and I can't read it. I don't have the money to pay a translator to make it readable, and it really seems silly to do all that for a single doujin. Are there any programs online that can read the Japanese characters on the image, and translate it into English?

Some scanners have a function where you can scan an image and it becomes translated into text (scan as PDF or document)
(which you could then put into an online translator) the only problem is most of the time I get
lots of typos - the program confuses similar symbols (L I 1 |) (4 H B) (a 0 o) etc.

I actually found a site that does it all online, and it's pretty easy to use.

I know it's not downloadable, but do you think we should put it on the list of free programs? It seems rather easy, and I've already translated a couple pages using it, Google Translate, and a bit of common sense in interpretation.

Are you absolutely sure there isn't already a scanlation of this manga? Just about every manga ever made in the history of ever has been translated by fans. Even really insanely obscure stuff like "No Bra" (which isn't as ecchi as it sounds) and "Kimi no Unaji ni Kanpai" (a failed first series by Maki Murakami, author of the yaoi series "Gravitation") have scanlations.

I mean I'm guessing you'd have searched it up on all the big manga scanlation databases (mangareader, mangatrader, etc.) but I'm throwing it out there anyway because I find it hard to believe nobody's translated it yet.

Unless of course the issue is that you can't even get an english title for the series, but that can be easily remedied. This is the internet. If you've got a title page containing what appears to be a logo, somebody will tell you what it says in exchange for zero dollars and zero cents.

I've looked absolutely everywhere, and couldn't find an English version. I even tried straight Google, after the different database sites failed me, and found absolutely nothing. I'd give you the name of the manga if you want to see what it is yourself (which is the only thing in English), but it's hentai. I'm not really sure what the site's policy is on it, considering the ages of some of the users. Nothing disturbing or disgusting, just a very strange concept behind it.

I can do that, but I will NOT do it for zero dollars and zero cents. >:[
...I'm only accepting it in Euros now. That converts to exactly zero Euros.

Seriously though, show me an image and even if I can't translate it myself, I know how to use a kanji dictionary to look up the characters I don't recognize (since kanji can't be alphabetized, it requires a system based on breaking each kanji symbol down into its most basic parts and counting the number of strokes).

Given my education, this is definitely the LEAST that I should be able to do for you. I really should get more practice, anyway.

If the manga is hentai, and you're worried about posting it publicly, just PM me the title page and I'll work from there. For that matter, it might be within the site's policies to discuss this in the Mature Discussion forum. Are you a member of that private forum? It looks like you're old enough to join, if you haven't already. Moving this thread to the MD forum is also an option, if you'd like to step it up to an "M rating."

Like I said earlier, I've already found a program that can turn the image into text that I can put through Google Translate and, with a little rearranging and some common sense, get a fairly decent translation. I don't necessarily need a translator right now. I just thought it was odd that a pre-translated version doesn't seem to exist on the Internet. Besides, if this ends up being as easy as it seems right now, I could probably get set up with a scanlation group, possibly just art cleanup and preparation work. (I wonder if that could be useful on a resume in any way...)

I was considering looking for something to help teach me Japanese, and I didn't know that about kanji. I thought it was like the other letters, and each symbol translated to a syllable.

Anyways, back to one of my original questions, would the image recognition site I found for translating be something worth putting on one of the pinned program lists at the top of the forum?

Anyways, there should be no problem with giving the name so long as you don't provide a link. I'm rather curious myself as to what you mean by that it's "strange"...But yeah, if you're worried about breaking the rules, just handle things in PM.

Well, okay, kurt91. The reason I disregarded your image recognition software and Google translation plan was because I know JUST how ineffective and downright cryptic automatic Japanese translation can be. If you find yourself unable to come up with something decipherable, just PM me and I'll have a look.

Note: I wouldn't offer if I actually minded doing it. It's a good thing when I'm able to dust off my Japanese knowledge.
