I'm actually hoping you can pull this off. BTW did you get the two zip files containing sounds from both our version and the Famicon version of the game in your sound thread? Also if you want I could probably find 8-bit versions of other zelda songs if you wanted to add more variety to the music used. Although they would be in mp3 form (I hate midis anyway)

It's going smoothly. If you want to help you can help by shouting out ideas and giving the chess master lots of praise and brownies... If you're going to give me music I would only take midis sadly.

Unfortunately I don't know of any midis that are new zelda songs using 8 bit sound fonts.

Okay then, well as long as you promise to give me brownies then it's okay. icon_lol.gif

Here's a update on progress.

For graphics I've been blessed with the graphics for 3 of the enemies. Special thanks to Cukeman for this. icon_smile.gif

For audio I have found the sound effects and a nsf file for the original game. Which is a start. Probably won't use it, but it's there. icon_smile.gif

For Scripts... So far the following enemies have been scripted: Arulowder, Daira, Doomknocker, Helmethead, Carock, Gooma's Mace, Barba. I also have finished scripting the spell system and have written a functional ffc script for smash through walls. icon_smile.gif

He wasn't the first one to do it/attempt it. There's already a complete one on the AGN database from many-a years back, and I remember seeing a project here and there attempting it. So yeah...I see no issue here, especially since they're different authors and will almost certainly be two different styles. icon_razz.gif

Now, I can't really say there's much to comment on. I loved Zelda II, so I'm interested in seeing where this goes. Nice to hear that you're trying to get the enemies from the original game. It'd be interesting to see how some of them would translate into an overhead style. :3

Looking forward to seeing what you make of this. I'll be able to give real feedback once we've got some stuff to look at. icon_smile.gif

Agreed with Spacemandan.
There aren't very many Z2 remakes so the more the merrier! It's not like another Zelda 1 remake. We've got about over 100 of those. So I'm thinking this one will be a bit more unique.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to seeing the scripts. I really like the enemies in Zelda II so if you nailed the enemies, I will play this no doubt icon_wink.gif All you need is to post some form of footage. I would really like to see what's going on so far icon_smile.gif

I have indeed realized that I'm just one of three members who are doing Zelda II-related projects (although blackbishop is the only other one who is actually *remaking* Z2).

While I admit that I'm a little bummed that a number of people have had the same idea, I think there are enough differences in our projects to ensure that each quest will be unique.

For instance, blackbishop is using lots of scripting and is trying to recreate the experience much more closely than I am. I, on the other hand, am trying to use only standard ZC features without scripting to create a fun experience. Basically, I'm testing ZC 2.5's amateur-friendly features to see what I can do with them.

Cukeman, on the other hand, is making a direct sequel to Zelda 2. Therefore, he won't be recreating Zelda 2 itself... he'll just be trying to recreate its look and feel to a certain extent.

Also, I don't remember whether blackbishop is using the same tileset as Cukeman, but I know that neither of them are basing their tilesets on New BS. So there's that.

Although your excuse for me to stop working on this project was made invalid by proceeding comments, but I thought I would respond anyways. The game is going to be completely different from Radien's trust me.

You know what, you bring up a good point. What is it to just say the scripts are complete without being actually able to see what they do. I'll work on a feasible solution to this problem.

What bums you out about people sharing the same ideas for a quest as you? Oh and I believe Cukeman is using the classic tileset.

This post feels 'spammy' to me, but I guess I will end the 'controversy' lol
I'm using classic with custom modifications and I am also creating new 'classic' tiles.

It is not at all spammy. You just clarified everyone's misconceptions. icon_smile.gif

Anyways, I thought about it, and perhaps tech demos are in order in order to show off the scripts? What do you guys think?

I'd love to see it. I just popped on to grab the Daria .gifs to try him out in battle.

Are you set up to put videos online blackbishop89? I am.

I have a question for everyone. Would you rather see a tech demo of the spells or enemies? Either way I'll show off 5 of them.
