I was wondering... Has anyone tried IE9 on windows 7?

Now why I'm asking is...Well I'm a new windows 7 user, and mostly I have heard that its better then the last few IE's.
But I know IE 8, was just crap. But before I even attempt downloading it. I wanted to know if anyone thinks its any count.

I've heard it was better than IE8, but I've only tried it briefly since my mom is technologically inept with her computer. But from what I hear, while it's still an improvement, you're better off sticking to Firefox or Chrome.

Yeah... The only reason Microsoft is pushing new IEs is to keep people from switching to better browsers. The only thing IE does well is display websites specifically designed for it.

I use Chrome with the IE-Tab extension. Whenever I come across a page that isn't displaying how it should be I click the IE button and Chrome displays the page as it would appear in IE (which practically always fixes the problem).

Unfortunately, two of my favourite things (AdBlock Plus and Orbit Downloader) aren't fully compatible with Chrome, so I find myself having to use Firefox more than I'd like to (Firefox, Y U SO SLOW?).

Anyway, IE9 isn't bad - I would even say it would be better than Firefox if it stuck to W3C standards instead of doing its own thing.

I was reading around some more and It don't seem that good. I think I'll just stick with opera.
And I might have to go back to windows XP. Windows 7 does not seem too stable right now. I don't know what I've done But Avast Is reading every connection as threat. And I fill kinda Unsafe on it.
I rather be back on XP.
So could some one Lock this I don't think this topic is needed anymore.

You might as well upgrade to IE9 anyway since it does update some other Windows components. Windows 7 (especially the 64-bit version) will be much more ... I don't want to say "secure," but it is more resilient against attacks than XP. Probably Avast is set to some crazy-high security mode.

(In addition, consider switching from an always-on, resource-hogging antivirus app to something like Malwarebytes that you just run manually if you think there's a problem.)

Well I won't be Upgrading anytime soon to IE9. I just stuck my old Windows Xp hard drive.
And I'm a XP user again...

And Avast wasn't set to a high security setting. I had the settings Just the same way I have on my Xp hard drive. I just felt really Unsafe in windows 7 After the avast thing
I Think I'll just stick with a Xp it seems a lot better for my computer.

So once again Could a site-staff/Global mod/mod. Close this topic.

Well, before someone closes this, I did want to say something...

You all need to stop with the mindless Microsoft hating and actually try stuff before complaining about a product.

As someone who has gotten into web design, I'll be the first to admit that older versions of Internet Explorer were terrible (as in... IE7 and earlier), but Microsoft has really stepped things up with IE8 and IE9. Both are a lot more competent and standards compliant. IE9 can do quite a bit of HTML5, and IE10 will be even more compliant.

Also, in recent tests, Internet Explorer has been one of the most secure browsers (stand alone) due to Microsoft adding in features of blocking known malicious websites. Their method of doing so has proven to be a lot better than going off of Google's block list (which is what both FF and Chrome use).

Now, that's not saying I use IE9. I still prefer Firefox personally. But it's annoying seeing people hate on something Microsoft is actively trying to fix when they obviously haven't tried it.

I'll reply to a couple things before finishing my post.

All browsers do this to some degree. All three main browser chains display things differently (the 3 chains being Internet Explorer, Gecko (Firefox), and Webkit (Safari, Chrome)). All 3 even make up their own tags (for things like curved borders in CSS). It's really annoying, don't get me wrong, but you can't fault just IE for that.

The only thing IE does well is display websites specifically designed for it.

Again, this can be said of all 3 main browser chains. It's very easy to make something look good in FF, but not look good in Chrome, for example.

And that ends this mini rant.

If you are using Vista or Windows 7 then you should upgrade it even if you don't use it. Various programs like to use a mini web browser and will use the IE engine for it.

Microsoft has yet to add back all the UI customization features IE 6 had so I continue to use Firefox which is essentially IE6 interface with tabbed browsing >.> (And lacks support for insecure ActiveX)

Only problems I had with IE6 was with websites using ActiveX content to perform drive-by attacks and how easy it was for 3rd party programs to mangle IE6 settings and stuff.

It's really bad. Just like Nintendo, IE doesn't deserve this. It only gets better. I also don't use IE (I use Chrome), but my point still stands. Maybe it's because people expect the same as before, and continue the hate. (JUST like the Nintendo Wii thing)

You should update to IE9 regardless of what you think because a lot of things still use trident as a web browser component and any sort of hijacking can leave you standing in the cold with a broken version of IE6 ready for exploiting. Also, ditch Avast and move on to MSE or something unless you're actually paying for anything.

By the way you explained it...it reminds me of the Wii/360/PS3 debate.

I only use Windows for games, so IE really isn't even an issue or option.

In my experience, paid-for antivirus software is no better than open-source antivirus. I use ClamWin on my Windows side and it seems to do a good job.

Vista runs a lot better then windows 7 ever will, 7 ran like crap and from what I found out my computer was under attack by some sort of virus. Now I've never ever been hit with a virus on windows Vista or XP. my opinion now is Vista, XP is a lot more safer the 7.

Anyways before I can get IE9 I have to update the crap out of my computer with service packs

That doesn't necessarily mean 7 is less secure; it just means that you happened to get a virus on 7 instead of XP/Vista. Any number of other variables could have caused you to get a virus.

Regardless of whether or not you intend to update to IE9, you really should update to the latest service pack anyway. Service packs often contain critical OS updates that enhance security.
